My Zayo Experience

Pros

Zayo is probably the most unique company I've ever worked for. So far it has been a great thrill, one of the best times of my life. Its so good though that I worry about losing it all, I don't mean getting fired, I mean some of the items I mention below in the Cons section. The Pros are being able to do your job without being micromanaged (though some new policies recently put this in question), the ability to do your job from where ever you may be at any given moment, i.e. travelling, telecommuting; if you follow Marissa Mayer's brilliance you either don't trust your employees or your ego demands your loyal subject's ever presence at your watercooler to prove something. This is one of the main points of the networked economy, to reap the rewards it offers, and Zayo does a great job of that by trusting its employees where ever they are, the employees know this and they offer their loyalty and productivity in exchange for this trust and freedom.

Cons

Zayo's workload is considerable to excessive, particularly relative to its compensation package which is lower than its peers' for comparable positions, though there are some positives that help off-set the lower comp. A con example 1: When Zayo's headquarters moved to Boulder, this increased its employees' commuting and/or housing costs, yet there were no adjustments to offset this cost. Con example 2: Zayo's position is that it doesn't give raises, except merit based or other achievement based increases; these increases, as little as they are, do not offset the ever increasing costs of living, so the intended reward for doing good is dampened by the reality of inflation year in year out.

Pros

Highly engaged executive team, extremely self-motivated workforce that creates a peer-pressure derived culture of excellence, and a palpable feeling of being part of a space leading company. Single system (SFDC) saves the day time and time again.

Cons

Constant changes, benefits could be a little better ie: No 401k match. Product silos seem to create Service Delivery issues.
