Good people, messy culture

Pros

Zillow has some of the smartest, most caring, and creative thinking people I have ever met. Their Chief People Officer and the majority of their executives are wonderful to work with, and the vast majority of peers are kind, intelligent, and thoughtful.

Cons

Zillow is stuck. I'm not sure if the acquisition strategy, the attempt to enter traditional real estate, or bureaucracy is to blame, but despite having all the right pieces and people, Zillow is rowing in circles. The polite culture has been infected by politically minded people using superficial metrics and being loud to move up in the company over more qualified, better employees. People have started being punished for pointing out problems, and are encouraged to gloss over mistakes and avoid big swings. Resources are conservatively allocated, so people start to in-fight and manipulate in order to avoid being understaffed. Compensation is extremely low compared to even earlier stage companies. Using the right language and virtue-signaling is prioritized over efforts to actually increase representation and inclusion. It breaks my heart to see a company filled with so many wonderful people have no clear path forward.

Pros

The company provides amazing work culture, amazing benefits and fantastic career development. They also provide fully remote and hybrid schedules, depending on what works best for the employee. The company truly values work-life balance and they ensure you are taken care of!

Cons

I haven't found a con yet, and that says a lot because most jobs either fail in one or more of the categories I mentioned in the pros, plus management typically sucks at most places. Not at Zillow though. Everyone is so caring, helpful and supportive and everyone strives to make sure everyone on the team performs well and help when ever assistance is required.

Pros

I was laid off from my previous position, out looking for a new job. Well I could not have been luckier in where I landed. Zillow group is the best place I have ever worked and I am truly grateful for this job. I am compensated generously, I have been given unbelievable perks and I have been treated with respect by every person I have encountered. I hope to spend many years here.

Cons

I do not have a single con for this job.
