Pros

- Zillow’s brand name still carries weight on a resume. - Some talented and driven peers at the IC level who try to do good work despite leadership gaps.

Cons

- Compensation in the ASA Sales Org is below market and not competitive with comparable SaaS or adtech roles. - ASA Sales Org is a textbook case of how not to run sales leadership. Zero structure, unclear expectations, and shifting priorities with no accountability from the top. - Leadership (BJP) was inconsistent, reactive, and avoided ownership. No coaching, no feedback loops, no partnership. - Onboarding for new managers is essentially nonexistent - thrown into the deep end to sink or swim. Success is left entirely up to luck and self-navigation. Leadership applauds sacrifice but provides no real support. - Culture is one of finger-pointing rather than enabling. When things go wrong, managers are the scapegoats.

Pros

- good company values: transparency, honesty, teamwork, people-first - excellent onboarding - great remote-first culture -- everyone is remote, so no-one is remote - interested in your activities outside of work

Cons

The worst manager of my career here. A true engineer-turned-manager, they played mind-tricks on everyone, miscommunicated constantly, dismissed opinions, gave no career guidance, and absolutely hated the interpersonal part of the job. Many logged complaints before I even started, yet nothing was ever done. Out of the blue, after receiving a Successful review, I was not meeting expectations and performance problems were exaggerated to get me to leave. When that didn't work, they laid me off for the first time in my 25+ year career. Had internal interviews lined up for other positions, but they didn't care. HR never helped. Absolutely horrific experience. I cannot ever recommend this place.

Thank you for your review. We hear you on the importance of clear, consistent communication. Creating transparency in a growing and evolving company takes work, and your feedback helps us understand where we can do better. Thanks for 'Turning on the Lights' to tell us what's working, and what still needs focus.

Zillow, you are breaking my heart!

Pros

It’s cool working for a company with name recognition. Zillow was an innovative product with real heart. I guess Rich got what he wanted—Zillow became a verb. The Senior Directors in Rentals Sales are solid. But honestly, if they’re that good… why are they still here?

Cons

There’s nothing quite like sitting in a Zoom meeting with cameras off across the board.. or worse, watching VPs and Directors with theirs on, smirking while clearly messaging each other. It’s not subtle. The culture leans cliquey and performative, like a corporate version of the “mean girl” table. There’s a recurring pattern of men offering unsolicited advice, only to women - dressed up as being "helpful." It’s not mentorship. and it’s exhausting. As for Rentals? If job security is the goal, your best bet is selling a product that, let’s be real, isn’t actually helping anyone. I’ve heard Sales reps openly admit they wouldn’t use Zillow to find their own rental. That tells you everything. Thinking about joining? Don’t let the “Best Places to Work” badges fool you. Every org has its own flavor, and many here are run by leaders who smile through all-hands and say, “Things are great,” right before explaining why your raise won’t happen because the business is “being conservative.” If you want the truth, don’t look at the brand. Talk to someone who’s already made it out. xo.
