Mindful Leadership, Awesome Culture

Pros

One of the things that attracted me to Zirtual was their clear set of company values and culture - for a start-up its great for a young company to care and 'walk the talk’ in that area. Virtual co-workers are easy going yet professional - fellow co-workers have their own unique professional background experience or academia, which makes ZA’s quite interesting people. Likewise, clients (for the most part) are great to work with, and see the value in having a ZA. In some sporadic instances, I’ve had clients who would personally thank me over the phone or send me gift cards as a small token of appreciation - how awesome is that? :) Management is open and approachable if any concern is brought to awareness. I’ve had the chance to meet a lot of management in person, and I have had positive interactions with everyone. I feel very well taken care of and know if any issue comes up, I can always let my supervisor (aka PL) know without hesitation.

Cons

After 1 year of working with Zirtual, it does seem to be pretty different than when I joined, but in a really good way! There are many who left after the shift from IC to employee, and it was unfortunate to see that. However, I think those changes were made with good intention… I can understand with how some previous ZA’s feel like things are being changed a lot policy-wise, however, for a start-up that’s to be expected... and it takes a lot of patience to understand that. Also, it is true that you may not receive the most awesomest clients ever. It takes a high level of EQ to work with an array of clients from several different industries, each with their own personal preferences and quirks. So being a strong communicator with clear-set boundaries is vital in those situations with difficult clients. In general though, most clients will not be like that and are professionals. Some clients do have the big egos or are great communicators on the phone, but really bad at delegating/communicating via email. Which can make it quiet frustrating.

Pros

I've worked for Zirtual for over a year now and I can honestly say it has been more fulfilling than I ever imagined! Not only do I have flexibility while I work from home, I also have the opportunity to capitalize on a full benefits package and growth within the company. I am privileged enough to have the chance to attend school functions with my children while also having a successful professional life...who even knew that was possible in today's workforce?!?! The culture within Zirtual is second to none - when employees speak in this company, the upper management listens and adjusts the work flow appropriately. This is not something that should be taken lightly - I'm not talking about an email thread, I'm talking about a one-on-one conversation with the CEO. Can you say the same about your company? As a former teacher I can assure you that was never the norm for me; my administrators never asked my opinion on procedures, much less took that feedback to develop a more successful entity. While everyone has their opinions, I am excited to see where Zirtual goes in the future! Even more than that, I'm excited to be an integral part of the growth this company will be experiencing!!

Pros

The freedom to work from anywhere is awesome. I love being able to work from wherever I have Internet access. The transparency and communication within the company is refreshing, as well. The decision-makers are very involved with their 'ground forces', constantly sending out surveys and requests for input on how they can improve our experience. The culture is one of support. You can always reach out to other people in the company and they are quick to jump in and help. Small groups offer day-to-day support and reduce the isolation these types of work-from-home jobs can bring. Finally, the company is improving at a rapid pace. They've been rolling out new programs for employees to increase the amount of benefits we get from our jobs and make advancement easier within the company.

Cons

While the location you can work from is flexible, the time isn't. There is only an option for full-time, and once you choose a time zone to work in, that's the one you stay in (with exceptions, of course). For me, that's totally fine. For others, it might not be flexible enough. As with any rapidly growing company, sometimes new policies take some time for the kinks to work out. The nice thing about Zirtual is they're very open about this and are quick to fix something if it's not working. The pay could be higher, especially considering the amount/ type of work we do on a regular basis. Compensation and benefits have been an area of improvement lately, which is a promising sign.
