Pros

My coworkers are fantastic and the work environment is fairly laid-back.

Cons

I’ve worked for startups and this place definitely has that vibe. The financial bottom-line is a frequent topic of conversation, and urgent deadlines for frivolous projects pop up without end. Don’t work here if you value your mental health or a good paycheck- they won’t pay you what you could be paid anywhere else.

Pros

Some people can be nice and fun to work with! You do get some form of learning (what not to do, how not to behave etc.)

Cons

- CEO and management are so blinded by greed that they don't see the suffering and realities of other folks. While covid is leading to a boost in sales, there is no empathy for employees to recognize their struggles financially or emotionally. I left in time but have heard of several folks getting covid because Zymo was unable to keep/ not interested in keeping folks safe. To further prove this, Zymo has a history of offering reagents at a discount after natural disasters (Floods etc.) 2. HR is a joke 3. It really does depend on the group you're in, but one day the CEO will turn on your group giving his changing priorities so enjoy it while it lasts 4. Pay is so low that if you can get away with working less you will. Folks talk about leaving so often due to the reasons mentioned above 5. Compliance and data safety: with lack of investment in IT/ privacy laws Zymo has not stored your data appropriately. If you have sent them your genetic samples your data has been compromised You will learn nothing but negative things, leave or don't join

Pros

-A lot of hard working interns and research associates -Some very friendly people (depending on which group you click with) -Pretty chill work environment (depending on your director)

Cons

-A lot of the hard work and ambition of the research associates are discounted and usually under-appreciated unless you work for a solid director. In most cases, the director makes or breaks your time at Zymo e.g. If there is a director that takes brunt of the CEO's attitude, then there's a guarantee that the director will treat everyone else below similarly. -There are problems with the overall satisfaction at Zymo. Whichever work group that you get into, you will have one or two individuals in the group that will talk about quitting or submitting their two weeks notice -Things are definitely run like a startup where as much money is saved while giving their workers as much work as possible(research associates doing customer service or sales) - A lot of lazy and unmotivated workers who basically use Zymo to collect checks while they "work at home". The best way to combat this is to stop cheaping out on every aspect of the company. It's apparent that Zymo underpays its employees, refuses to hire a full time IT team, and try to give a wide range of work to their workers. This simply leads to workers who try to get back at the company and get their money's worth from the company.
