Pros

If you like to travel, fine dining , free alcohol, and a free lunch and schmoozing and forming high-school like cliques. If you want to feel uncomfortable with gentle propositions that offend your since of morality then this is the place for you!

Cons

Despite the bells and whistles, insincere and hypocritical culture, selective enforcement of policies. Must be one of the in-group and politic well in order to be recognized, very gossipy and underhanded co-workers. Selective enforcement of policies. Bad mouthing of former employees. They will read your Glassdoor reviews. They will even analyze your writing style in an attempt to determine who wrote them. Your status in the company as an employee is often determined by your social status amongst the group rather than the quality of your results. Managers seem to be more concerned with being well liked, and shiny appearances of efficacy on paper even if the underlying work is lacking in substance and quality. Rather than ethics and integrity its a game of a group dynamics for show instead of a true bond rooted in something more than social superiority, exclusivity, and indiscriminately drinking the Kool-aid because it pays your mortgage. Even when the facts suggest otherwise until that's borders on the absurd . This is a place that prefers to grease the wheels and follow the path of least resistance instead of doing the right thing. Many are wiling to cheat for incentives especially if they fell they won't or can't be caught. If you have any integrity the workplace politics and feigned sincerity and cheating amongst your co-workers is sure to turn your stomach with disgust.

Dear Mastermind: I am certainly concerned that you have such strong feelings regarding your experience with the organization. I would personally like to invite you to give me a call and discuss the issues and in particular any ethical issues you believe are impacting our culture. We strive to be transparent and honest and expect employees to give us direct and honest feedback. I hope that you will take the time to reach out to me or anyone in our Human Resources Department to discuss your concerns. Without understanding the specific issues, it is difficult for us to address and drive a change in behavior. I realize we are leading our company through extensive change which requires a huge amount of energy, unwavering focus, and relentless persistence – and almost always takes longer than we expect. As leaders, our objective is to minimize the chaos and dial down the intensity people feel about change, yet remain focused on the end result. I hope you will embrace the opportunity to discuss your issues directly with those of us that can drive the necessary change. Marco

Toxic Arrogance

Pros

Free coffee and snacks. OEM endorsements.

Cons

This is the most toxic and arrogant company culture that I have ever encountered. I was warned by two friends of friends who previously worked here to "run away" from Mastermind. Do your homework and listen to these reviews! The managers are easily threatened and lack luster....and will start a witch-hunt to find any reason to get rid of you. In my travels, I was told by two different associates that if they don't like you they get rid of you early and often. I have now spoken with four people in the industry that Mastermind has disposed of. All had varying levels of toxicity on their respective teams. Common theme is that if you do not drink the arrogant Mastermind kool aid, you will be pushed to leave or ultimately fired. The culture feels like Junior High. Another reviewer on Glassdoor made the analogy about mean girls from high school. Bullying is alive and well at Mastermind. Though unprofessional and immoral, harassment and bullying are not illegal, so this company continues to legally chew people up and spit them out. Talent-less managers get rid of any person who cannot be easily controlled and manipulated. Anyone who questions things poses a threat to them. The micro-management and documentation on dealership visits are over the top excessive. Incompetent management is trying to protect and insulate themselves from the barrage of cancellations. The dealers are starting to wake-up and realize that their own associates are only touching the lease customers in Mastermind and that they already have a CRM and processes in place to work the lease portfolio. The program is over-priced and the Mastermind reps spend a full day at the dealership trying to act busy, as there is not enough to do to fill the day. They are required to spend the full day as to justify the very high dollars that the dealer is spending......smoke and mirrors to try to create some illusion of value to prevent cancel. The new conquest program's results are not good, as mentioned in other reviews.

Pros

Very high caliber team Work hard, play hard Was an extraordinarily positive culture 2016, 2017 fast growth

Cons

Conquest product didn't work. Product decisions made unilaterally Executive team only has 2 automotive people, the 2 company founders Key decision making became isolated to people not in touch with the clients They convinced themselves to raise prices, and new dealer growth and dealer retention crashed in 2018

Dear former Mastermind, thank you for the feedback. The last 3 years have been a wild ride on our rocketship. We deeply care about the culture, product and success of Mastermind and while I do agree that we can always do a better job listening and be more collaborative, I challenge some of your other statements. The acceptance and success of our new product, Market EyeQ, has been better than we could have ever hoped for and we made a conscious decision to provide more value at our current offer level, to support our partners in a flattening market. Please feel free to contact me directly if you have further questions. Thank you. Marco Schnabl
