Pros

I have worked in the multilingual customer services for a little less than two years. There are good benefits, especially if you come from overseas. There is relocation package, free accommodation (shared house, no utility bills for you whatsoever), 2x free airline tickets to go visit your home country. If you wish to rent an apartment of your own, the company pays up to a certain amount the rent. The salary is good enough for the Stoke-on-Trent area, as the prices of goods in the region are relatively low. There is also a bonus system which starts 6 months after your employment start (if I recall correctly) It is a good career start, and at least during my time there were some career development opportunities in-house. Good and long induction, to be prepared as adequately as possible. Every 5 weeks, there is a 6-day, day off which if you add it to your normal holidays you get the chance to travel a lot.

Cons

I will refer only to the customer services department, as the company is big and I would rather be unfair putting the whole organization in the loop. The atmosphere and the overall environment in the CS department got gradually quite negative from the moment I started till the moment I resigned. The employee is seen as a robot which its purpose is only to serve customers perfectly. If you make a mistake, even a small one, you are bound for disciplinary actions and for your bonus to be reduced. To sum it up you are not seen a human being with a personality or feelings. The nature of the service is such that you deal constantly with difficult customers. This is the betting world, people get frustrated when they loose. However, apart of the the pressure from the customers, you get double that from the company. It is like you have a boogieman breathing on your neck all the time. This creates even more psychological stress and highly reduces motivation. Many times it seemed, that to get promoted was not necessarily based on your performance, but other criteria. Other departments with which the CS needs to cooperate, where not quite professional making the advisor's life even worse. I would recommend this job to a friend only if he/she is in a desperately need for one. If you have the luxury of time to look for better positions, then it is better to do that.

Pros

Good salary, especially for the Stoke-on-Trent area, plus a bonus scheme. Also extra pay for evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

Cons

Whenever possible your bonus is reduced and your extras for evenings, weekends and bank holidays are lost if you are ill for just one day that month. Also the working hours are very unsociable as you have to work most weekends and regular late shifts. On a different note the company treats people like machines, there is nothing personal about this company anymore and they try to control absolutely everything by making rules for everything and if you don't follow without exception you are being threatened with disciplinary action straight away. They also have many procedures and rules in place which have simply no reason but to make the employees life harder. You are also not appreciated or valued one little bit, you are expected to manage huge amounts of work in very short time and even if you do, you won't get a thank you once.
