Pros

If you live on the NW side of Houston, it's in a decent location, and the office is well-appointed and nice. Free coffee, sodas, sparkling waters and lunch are all nice perks.

Cons

Since the company was purchased (and in the run-up to that), management is less and less connected with line employees, and is beginning to make decisions that do not put the employees first, instead choosing to treat people as replaceable commodities--hate to tell you, cPanel, but Perl developers and good QA people are *not* easy to get, and can easily find work someplace more sane, where their expertise is respected and compensated. Additionally, if you want promotions, it helps to be straight, cisgender, white, and male. Otherwise, count on working many times as hard as your peers for even less recognition. Like all growing companies, the stories they tell about who they are must change with the growth--it's a natural thing. But the older story about an upstart, family-friendly company where management gives a damn about the staff is no longer true, so don't believe it when you hear it. The new story looks much more like a conventional tech sweatshop, even though they're still *telling* the older tale.

Pros

There are no real "Pros" of working here

Cons

You will be strung along on promotions until you give up on them or move on "Total compensation" is used in lieu of actual pay raises, even when you cannot make use of all of the 'benefits' provided within it When issues are brought up they are generally ignored or glossed over You are expected to live and breathe cPanel both at work and at home The overall pay is below average for the area Upper management dictates the flow and are not open to suggestions on improvements; Their way or no way The company itself values"who you know" more than "what you know" or "what you can do", and being the best at something is very likely to prevent you from moving up or around

Good Company, Bad Leadership

Pros

cPanel was a great learning experience and they truly care about the employees. They offer great benefits, including free healthcare and 401k matching. If you are a developer or technical employee, you are highly respected and well compensated.

Cons

cPanel has a lot of great ideas, but it usually falls short in the execution. The human resources department is run by an employment attorney, and while they keep restructuring the department to make it better for employees, it always seems to be a way to better protect the company. The biggest con is the lack of business knowledge within the executive team. Most of the executives were the most technical person in their role and had nowhere else to be promoted to. There doesn't seem to be a focus on growing the company as much as developing features these executives want to see themselves. There is a serious lack of the customer's voice in the product direction. These concerns are often shared by employees and product owners but fall on deaf ears. If you are not a developer, the options for advancement and growth are severely limited. It's the first SaaS company I have worked for that treats the business operations as unimportant as cPanel does.
