      Pros

      eBay used to be an exciting place to work, with a large community feel. We were all growing together, as a large family would.

      Cons

      Turmoil abounds, no job security. There are no longer smiles on people's faces. Stress has taken over. The environment is secretive, untrusting, everyone is looking over his/her shoulder, waiting for the ax to fall. Now, with the frontline cut, management will have even less connection to its customers. Top management is the blind leading the blind.

      Full of Potential But Go in With Eyes Wide Open

      Pros

      The people. My colleagues were trusted friends as well as respected co-workers. There are loads of talented people to learn from there. Also, the business is just plain fun. Since so many people make a living selling stuff on eBay, being a part of that can be incredibly rewarding. You feel like you're part of helping people - giving them tools to make their lives better.

      Cons

      Management changes strategy at least every six months if not more frequently, many functions are fundamentally under resourced creating situations where many employees are essentially set up to fail. While general attitudes towards work/life balance are good, resource constraints make the real practice of work/life balance nearly impossible for many teams. My dept. had a serious "butts in seats" mentality. Apparently, if they can't see you - you can't possibly be working productively.

      Why did eBay give up on the marketplace itself?

      Pros

      it was a great company to work for but the culture and attitude towards customers and employees has changed over the last 2 years. It still has potential to get back to former growth. A lot of structure and clean up needs to be done, which gives room for someone to wants to improve and work hands on.

      Cons

      The environment is very fast paced and chaotic. Ideas don't last very long if they are not immediately successful. It has become very political over the years and more focused on restructuring and internal things instead of focus on the market and competition. It seems that they have given up on the market place itself and are only focused on payment and classifieds.
