Hello, thanks for sharing your feedback. Employee turn-over can be misconstrued as an always negative thing. The talented people we employ at ecobee naturally develops an environment of ambitious people that want to progress faster than unfortunately what the company may be able offer at the time. We endeavor to provide a place where people can grow professionally, learn or develop new transferrable skills that they can take forward with them. We never like to lose great people but it is also rewarding that ecobee could be part of their professional development to achieve future success. Andrew, Director of Support at ecobee

Pros

- Snacks - There are some amazing people still there

Cons

-Incompetent management. This is more evident in some departments and some of the higher ups in the company only have their position because they’re friends with the right people. They’re not necessarily bad people, but it just seems that they are out of their league. - Unrealistic deadlines. Management won’t listen if you tell them you think a deadline is unrealistic. When the deadline is not met, the CEO will then send an email out to the company essentially blaming the employees for coming up with the deadline and saying it’s not managements fault (meanwhile, everyone who I talked to had no idea where the original deadlines came from). They’ll also tell you that the success and future of the company literally depends on certain projects being completed by certain dates as a way to ‘motivate’. However, in my time there there was never a major project that was completed even remotely close to the original deadline. - People have been dropping like flies from the company recently. The energy and hope that this company had 2-3 years ago is long gone. - HR will gossip about employees. Don’t go to them in you have any issues. - Your experience depends entirely on which team you’re on. Some are actually pretty good, but others are awful. - Lots of issues with the customer support team, but that’s already covered in a bunch of other posts so I won't go into detail. - Below average pay and benefits. It’s also nearly impossible to get a raise. (I knew people who have been at the company for over 2 years who have never gotten a raise). - There’s weird rivalries between certain departments.

Pros

Lots of snacks and pop Loads of perks One month paid sabattical after 5 years Genuinely fun people Interesting projects

Cons

Lots of micromanaging of teams, constant questioning, no empowerment for middle management to make decisions, product release dates finalized and then 2 months from deadline developers don't have enough information to create the product as it may not be fully scoped, SmartHome innovation that has already been done by other companies. People regularly fired, and others leave. Many young staff in leadership roles with no business experience, constantly trying to solution where solutions already exist. Split offices for different staff, with a lot of painful decisioning on who should be moved to Corus Quay and then later learning everyone might move there.

We are sorry to hear that you’ve experienced some challenges. Our team is dedicated to continually improving and creating a great place to work for all of our employees. We encourage you to communicate your concerns directly to your HR Business Partner. We value openness at ecobee and have many resources in place to ensure we are here to support you. Of note, our Learning and Development function, ThinkLab, has been investing resources to launch leadership training company-wide and we are already seeing the results throughout the organization. As we are a rapidly growing company, our office move is a sign of our continued growth. Given that the new construction of the offices is finalized in stages, we made a conscious business decision to relocate in phases in order to accommodate for the available seating and unite all of our teams in an effort to nurture our collaborative culture. While we are a rapidly growing company, we need to be agile, and adaptive to change. ecobee is always working on ways to improve the employee’s experiences and growth. We thank you for your feedback.
