      No longer a great place to work

      Pros

      Snacks in the office I guess. Oh and we now have a retirement plan.

      RTO has been forced upon us with less than 3 months notice. There was a question and answer session , where management deftly avoided answering questions with any substance and did not produce any reasoning on the decision (nothing that proves that anything they said is based on evidence) Ecobee used to pride itself on being remote first. They also admitted this decision was not about productivity. Which makes me think: 1. This decision was not made by ecobee - possibly forced from above by Generac which is in line with other things like losing the sabbatical. 2. Given that we were profitable and productive that the decision was about control and not evidence.

      - Great benefits package - Fully remote

      Cons

      - Speaking to management is like trying to talk to a brick wall. Extremely canned responses regardless of the question being asked. - The tech support section of the company truly treats their employees like they are just a number, with little regard for mental health or problems that arise on the job or on calls. - HR is woefully mismanaged. When asking for a credential reset I was emailed another colleague's login details in plain text. - Extremely small amount of time between customer calls, leaving no time to do proper post-call documentation.

      * Good Sustainability messaging; questionable follow through * Some talented and good people * Some decent benefits

      Cons

      Where do I start!!! * Toxic Leadership; Backstabbing and bad mouthing of other employees + lots of politicking and throwing others under the bus * Fear mongering from leaders to most of the staff + tons of micromanagement * No warning or feedback before dismissal of certain previous employees * Lots of friend promotion happening rather than performance based * Products are way behind competition like they just released a doorbell thinking it is revolutionary but with subpar features and crappy hardware while using software to cut corners!!
