Pros

Disrespectful Support Management & Poor Scheduling. Beautiful office location by the lakeside with a great view. Some very talented co-workers, team leaders, QA and supervisors. Frequent social events, snacks, food, etc. Opportunity to work under the same roof as product & engineering. Never saw that before! Whoever came up with that idea, kudos!

Cons

It is crystal clear, support managers have no respect for their employees. Anyone says otherwise, serving their agenda as that's the only way to survive in this department. Support management doesn't have the same vision as the CEO or the COO. What we hear in company meetings from a passionate CEO and the actions of some of these titleholders at support is the opposite. They do not embody the core values that they preach. They are not open and have no integrity. Many incidents of breaking trust, but they want us to trust them. Constantly taking people into the rooms, berating and belittling employees, even to the team leads and supervisors. I have seen many colleagues and supervisors in tears in recent times. They can't speak up, we all have to choose- stay quiet or lose your job. Terrible schedule! It has gotten worse. They implemented a tool that doesn't work. Many of us reported to the manager but was advised it's our fault, we don't see it right!! It's always our fault, we are just damn peasants. What do we know about scheduling!! Schedule changes week to week now, the explanation is business needs. What a baloney. The tool doesn't work at all. With the frequent changes in schedule, it's hard to keep track, on top of that you CANNOT check your schedule outside of work!!! We used to be able to do it before with the old system, even from our phone, now we can't. This is unbelievable! Whoever made the decision to switch, let's sit down to check on your skills matrix, shall we? - Decision Quality? Poor! Did you even test it? Also, they punish you for being 2 minutes late for a schedule that changes on the fly and you can't check outside of work. Many people around planning their exits, just because of how we are being treated by the management, not the customers. Looks like there will be no one left but the management to take calls.

Thank you for providing your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your experience at ecobee has been negative as we strive to make this a great place to work. We value each and every one of our employees, so, we encourage you to communicate your concerns directly to your HR contact. We do want to note that we always appreciate advice/feedback and we assure you that what you have shared will be taken into account as we work to improve our Customer Support employees' experience. We recently introduced a new enterprise level forecasting/scheduling tool that allows staff to input their shift preferences ahead of time to better balance their personal needs and business needs. In order to ensure that our employees have adequate time to plan accordingly, we publish the following 4-5 weeks of schedules on the 2nd week of each month. Our intention is to make scheduling easier, fair and more efficient and such, appreciate your feedback regarding this tool.

Pros

Great Canadian story in the making Very smart talented co-workers, guaranteed learning opportunity HR team do excellent jobs, from recruiting the best and brightest. They facilitate the onboarding process, welcome gift, coordinate meeting the teams Company cares about its employees, training funds, snacks, fresh fruits ect one of my favourite aspects is the social contribution, wether it is through building great eco friendly products to it's culture of encouraging community involvement such as through paid volunteering day, charity, I believe this was a great foundation the company was built on, truly Canadian

Cons

I personally don't have any complains from my perspective, everything experience was a either a celebrated success or a learning opportunity. If you get an opportunity got for it!

Pros

Ecobee is supportive of their technical teams ' abilities and cushions their failures in a way that makes the teams feel empowered. This is a product driven company and you are reminded of that at every turn. Great place to be if you are a developer, or some other technical specialist. Your successes will be lauded and your failures will be framed as "temporary setbacks".

Cons

All the pros are all exactly the opposite if you are on a non tech team - Customer Support, the sales team, marketing, HR, Finance, Logistics, etc. Your success barely matters and isn't supported, either mentally by the executives, or financially with resources (human or otherwise). HR are nice people but largely ineffectual because they haven't been empowered to do anything meaningful. It's not their fault, they can only do what they are "allowed". Which means they put in place a lot of technically good HR initiatives, like sabbatical after five years, or a training budget, but don't actually drive good working conditions, like getting your bosses to be less toxic, or mandating your boss allows you to have time off to actually use the training budget by going to a course or seminar or something , or help foster an environment with you do feel like you could stay with the company long term.

I’m sorry to hear your experience at ecobee didn’t live up to your expectations, or mine either. It’s disappointing to think that it feels like there are two cultures that may exist and that you will be treated differently based on your department. We encourage people to speak up if they feel things could be improved and offer several outlets to make your voice heard (i.e. engagement survey, anonymous questions, HRBP model etc.). I hope you felt empowered to make your opinion heard and as I’ve always said, I’d want people to reach out to me personally if they feel things aren’t moving in the direction they need. Appreciate your feedback and candor in this post and will ensure other ecopeeps don’t feel this same way going forward. - Penny Farinha, VP, HR
