I was started as an account executive literally 2 days after I graduated college and had no experience in radio and minimal experience in sales/advertising. I was told that there was extensive training, resources and I could go to the president and vp of sales if I ever had questions about anything. I was made aware of the base salary for the first 9 months and then it was 100% commission after. I was also told that it would take about 6-9 months to really catch on to everything and have a good list of accounts. The first month went on and I loved the position, I had decent accounts but nothing major and I was having a hard time closing deals because of my lack of training. Then a new vp of sales started and she was great, she started to train me on every aspect of the industry but was not always available to help. A new person started about 3 weeks after the vp and instantly she was given major accounts and expected to do so much when I was getting nothing and being told that I didn't have enough "life experience" to handle these accounts.. I continued to get in trouble for not closing accounts that I had just presented to the business not even a week before even though the president and vp would tell me that it sometimes would take a couple of months and sometimes even a year to get someone to advertise since it is such a big investment. Apparently 3 months is too long for someone who came in with no experience to not have a mile long account list and bringing in over 80k a month (only people who have been in this position for a good amount of time can do that unless you get amazing accounts that spend over 10k a month, which is also VERY hard to come by) the management doesn't care about you or your life. They just care about the money.
