Cons
I was attracted to iN2l because of the supposed mission. I was on the hunt to work for a company that made a difference. I was told the culture was inclusive and collaborative. The reality is the complete opposite. Middle-management is ego-centric and selfish. Processes across the organization are painful and disjointed but rather than taking the time to implement real change, more nonsensical administrative tasks are created to temporarily skirt the issues. Middle managers are more interested in receiving undeserved kudos than they are in being real leaders. The company is so painfully disorganized I am truly surprised they've lasted this long. Benefits are a joke. I can hardly believe they actually call it a benefits package. Executive leadership is tone deaf. I kind of appreciate the thought behind all the surveys they send but the irony of having recurring meetings to announce that the entire company is repeatedly begging for less meetings blows my mind. We have a nightmare amount of work to get through every day, none of us can keep our heads above water, but hey, the ELT really wants to know about our favorite mythical creatures. It's insulting to be expected to waste time on nonsense meetings while my boss is micromanaging me to death, demanding to know why my insurmountable work load isn't done. This is not the place for you if you do not have nerves of steel. Everything is a crisis. Everything is a life and death emergency. Everything must be done now now now. Boundaries are deliberately stomped on and there is no respect for the time or bandwidth of others. The average workday consists of me staving off anxiety attacks and to thank me I am treated like a second class citizen. Management is condescending and public shaming is the par for the course.
