Stay far, far away. A total mess.

Pros

Free salad, some very talented people at the company

Cons

There are many foundational issues at sweetgreen starting with senior leadership. They are at the whims of the cofounder's ever-changing priorities to keep up with 'what's cool' and are essentially 'yes men' rather than doing what's best for the business and their teams. There is absolutely zero job security and the company is constantly restructuring and laying people off for no reason. In my experience, there was no support for employees with families although sweetgreen tries to portray having strong morals and values. Priorities and KPIs changed on a daily basis and it's crystal clear departments are not on the same page and there is a lack of communication and vision at the company.

Pros

- You have great potential to do high visibility and high impact work - Leadership often allows you to take ownership over certain aspects of your work - The company is a tech-focused, data-driven company with a positive brand image - You will work with many smart people who are driven by the company’s mission and values - Lots of free, delicious sweetgreen

Cons

- The brand team works overtime (literally) to make this place seem better than it is - Priorities change often. Be prepared to create things that will not be implemented - Leadership admits to being opposed to structure in an effort to stay nimble, which often comes off as unfocused and lacking strategy - The company is run by three co-founders who make seemingly unfounded decisions that come as a surprise to many - Leadership hires highly experienced, intelligent employees to help the company scale but circumvents processes and best practices when push comes to shove - Many systems and processes are broken and were not built to scale - Two top employee complaints include unfair compensation and lack of information to adequately/easily do daily work - The recruiting, compensation, and promotion processes are inequitable with no adherence to poorly rolled-out structure - There is little to no staff development and employees are promoted into positions they do not deserve, resulting in under-qualified middle management - Employee turnover is high at the senior leadership level - Going to HR is discouraged (I can speak to three employees in different departments who have experienced this) - The company lies about work-life “harmony” and promotes a sweetlife that is unrealistic given the ever-evolving asks from all parts of the business

Pros

Love their salads and food ethos. I respect what they're trying to do from a sustainability standpoint.

Cons

There's a lot of talk around "living the sweet life" and "doing your best work" but there's so much infrastructure to be built that it's difficult to work on strategy when the house is on fire. There is no work life balance here -- because the infrastructure is so bad, everyone works hundreds of hours to just make things work. Everyone is exhausted and overworked. The turnover is very high...I knew I wanted to leave after weeks of starting. There are many new hires that never make the 1-year mark and leave on the 1-year anniversary to just get the equity.
