Amidst the celebration of #PrideMonth, we are reminded of the extraordinary individuals who inspire us to be better allies for our LGBTQ+ employees, patients, friends and family - Individuals like Kurt. Kurt has worked in health care for nearly 50 years, currently serving as a Coordinator of Volunteers and Interns at Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute. Reflecting on what Pride Month means to him, he shares what it was like to participate in his first Twin Cities Pride Parade: "I remember the first time I jumped into the Twin Cities Pride Parade in 1992 and the layers of shame that were peeled away. The Allina Health New Ulm Medical Center has received an award for work educating local students in healthcare careers. The Workforce pipelines and partnerships award was given by the Minnesota Hospital Association recognizing work done to retain and recruit healthcare workers. New Ulm Medical Center received the award for work including the Rural Physician Associate Program, Rural Medical Scholars Program, LPN student program with South Central College, Network New Ulm Youth, Scrub Club and New Ulm High School medical terminology class. As we bid farewell to our partnership with Free Bikes 4 Kidz MN, we're looking back on the 12 years we've teamed up to help kids pedal their way to a healthier future. 65,000 collected, refurbished and donated bikes later, we believe we have achieved just that. We are eternally grateful for our partnership with FB4K MN, and know that our shared passion for improving the health and wellness of our communities will always connect us. What's next for us? We will be shifting our focus to better meet the needs of our community including mental health, combatting addiction and addressing social determinants of health.
