Nearly 90% of Asbury associates say that their work is "more than just a job," and stories like this demonstrate why so many feel that way! Asbury Chandler Estate associate Josh Giaquinto was in for a surprise when he started his basketball season recently. A senior in high school and the star guard for the basketball team, Josh also serves as an Activities Assistant at Chandler Estate in Pen Argyl, Pennsylvania. For his first game of the season, residents and associates decided to surprise him. "We knew it was his senior year and it was a big night for him, so we wanted to do something special," said Director of Resident Life and Wellness Jackie Carey, who helped organize the trip.

“You had me at Neil Peart,” is the way Move-In Coordinator Amanda Price describes her friendship with co-worker Devon Ban. Not only do the two share a love of the rock band Rush and talents of late band member Peart, but their friendship also personifies what so many Asbury associates say about their workplace: “It feels like family.” And in December when Amanda married longtime love Michael, it was fellow associate Devon who joyfully officiated the ceremony. Devon, who serves as a sales counselor at Bethany Village, has an advanced degree in theology, but doesn’t use her training for ministry. However, she was quickly able to obtain an online ordination that gave her the credentials to perform the wedding. “There are so many reasons I love coming to work every day – the residents, the mission of our community – but my co-workers are at the top of that list,” says Devon. “They have stood by my side through highs and some tough times, and I am truly blessed to work with the incredible women that I do.”

Several of our communities experienced some form of winter weather last week, and all the Maintenance and Facilities teams deserve a huge thank you for the work they did to plow, shovel and de-ice to keep those we serve and work alongside safe. At RiverWoods, Executive Director Aaron Barth did his part to help with snow removal, driving a snow plow to clear the parking lots and roads around the community. Servant leadership starting at the top -- way to go, Aaron!

Earlier this year West Manchester Township, in collaboration with Normandie Ridge, created a paved senior trail within a rustic nature park on four acres of land. Our commitment to environmental stewardship was on display yesterday as the Garden Club of York, Girl Scout Troop 20396, and Normandie Ridge residents from worked on a project to create natural ornaments for three live trees at the Happy Trails Nature Park.

It's Infection Prevention Week and we want to say a big thanks to this team of dedicated associates who do so much to keep those we serve and each other safe. The pandemic has highlighted how critical these roles are -- it's not an easy job, but at each community these associates help set the foundation for good health and safety practices. They have many responsibilities, such as the oversight of the overall infection prevention program, surveillance for infections, outbreak management and prevention of infection throughout their communities.
