A Nurse for Life For more than 50 years, Nancy Ladd (pictured on the right) has worked as a nurse. In that time, she’s experienced incredible medical discoveries and challenges, but her care and dedication to her patients has never wavered. She even tried to retire once, but it didn’t stick. Her draw to nursing was too strong. “Being a nurse is part of who I am as a person,” she says. Read Nancy's full story: https://atriumhealth.org/dailydose/2023/04/25/celebrating-our-nurses
This #NursesWeek, Atrium Health is proud to celebrate the men and women who make up our largest group of teammates. Nurses are the backbone of all that we do. As a sexual assault nurse examiner, Taneika Torres cares for patients who have experienced a great deal of trauma. She provides added touches to help bring comfort – even creating bags filled with cosmetics and toiletries to help the victims she works with feel clean and refreshed after their examination. But her care doesn’t stop there. Taneika works with law enforcement and advocates for patients to ensure wraparound services for victims of sexual assault. She is also a member of the community Sexual Assault Response Team and Outcomes/Evaluation sub-committee for Mecklenburg County. Her input on processes to improve victim services is invaluable. As a member of the Mecklenburg County Strangulation Task Force, she helped create the non-fatal strangulation protocol which has helped identify injuries that may have previously gone unnoticed. Taneika is making a difference every day in the lives of our patients and the community.
Meridith Gombar started her career at Atrium Health 21 years ago as a health care technician. Meridith has been a registered nurse for 17 years, working primarily with the trauma population. She has since been instrumental in the PATH Team, which focuses on high-acuity, traumatic brain injury patients, as well as high-level spinal cord injury patients. Meridith is currently a program coordinator overseeing a variety of patient groups at Atrium Health Mercy. During her time as a Program Coordinator, Meridith developed the Meds to Bed program to ensure COPD patients received the needed medications when they were discharged. By implementing this program Meridith was able to decrease COPD readmission rates within 24 hour from over 50% to zero percent. Since, this service has been rolled out to all patients at Atrium Health Mercy and fills on average 400 prescriptions each month. Thank you, Meridith, for going above and beyond for our patients. You, like all nurses, make a difference each and every day. #AdvocateHealth

At Atrium Health, it pays to refer. Lara began working at Atrium Health in July of 2022. She was coming from a job that felt like family and she was nervous about starting something new. However, she says that she immediately “felt the positive teammate culture” and felt at home. She says, “Teammates really try to take care of each other and work hard as a team to give patients the best care possible.” After she knew this was the place for her, she added, “I knew that my ‘family’ from previous jobs would love it here, too, and I was very excited to recruit more teammates!” Atrium Health is proud to offer teammates the opportunity to refer friends, family and former team members for eligible opportunities with the possibility to earn substantial cash rewards.
