CONGRATS TO OUR VOLUNTEER SUPERSTAR: DANIEL DEL RIVERO Daniel, a sales representative in the metro Chicago area, was recently recognized by Masco, our parent company, for his volunteer efforts with the American Legion Post #939. A $5000 grant will be given in Daniel’s name to this nonprofit whose mission is to support Latino veterans’ mental health by offering community and representation. In addition to helping this organization raise funds for critical programs serving vulnerable veterans and their families, Daniel spends hours each week, working on everything from toy collections for children of military members, to card drives and winter kit distributions. Thanks, Daniel, for your heartfelt efforts!
CONCLUDING OUR BLACK HISTORY MONTH CELEBRATION During this month of celebration, we spent time educating and appreciating the culture, challenges, and accomplishments of Black people in America. We spotlighted several of our Black/African American team members, in video and written formats, to gain insight and inspiration. We shared relevant articles, information, and video links, and hosted a guest speaker presentation entitled, “How do you Spell LOVE,” by educator, social and civic leader, and veteran, Pastor Ivan Pitts. Beyond this dedicated month, we continue to work toward inclusion for all throughout the year, and will continue to provide more offerings, education, and spotlights.
TALENT MOBILITY AT BEHR We strongly encourage our team members to seek roles in other areas of the organization to broaden their knowledge, skill set, and perspective. Behr posts open positions internally first, giving our team members a head start to apply before any external candidates may apply. All internal candidates are promised an exploratory/informational discussion with the hiring manager, at a minimum, as well as the opportunity to seek related developmental feedback, if not selected for the position. Additionally, team members receive a weekly job opportunities e-mail for roles within Masco Corporation, our parent company, providing access to job openings in over 20 companies in the home improvement and new home construction markets.
COMMITMENT TO LEARNING ON OUR INCLUSION JOURNEY Over 350 team members recently attended encore sessions of the Busting Unconscious Bias workshop. This engaging workshop helped our team members confront their own unconscious biases (we all have them!) and learn how they manifest at work. Through experiential activities, they gained insights and learned some easy-to-use strategies to mitigate their biases. This workshop is just one of the ways we help our people leaders and team members apply behaviors that improve inclusion, empathy, and allyship on our journey to be a more inclusive workplace culture.

BEHR WELCOMES 2022 DEI COUNCIL BOARD MEMBERS We are excited to welcome 8 new board members to serve on Behr’s 2022 Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Council. These Behr team members represent different areas of the business as well as different backgrounds, locations, experiences, ethnicities, ages, and other demographics. They serve as champions, advocates, and allies in our drive to create a work community that celebrates diversity, provides a level playing field, and is welcoming and inclusive to all. We’re also grateful to our Behr team members who served on our 2021 board and whose passion has helped drive us forward in our DEI journey. Here’s what Sly Jones, 2021 board member, said about his experience: “Serving as a board member has been truly special to me. The work of the council has been instrumental in helping people feel like we actually can be a part of something special. When you go to the DEI forums, you can see the impact that giving someone a voice has on that person and has on society.”

DEI COUNCIL HOSTS DISCUSSION ON FEMALE BIASES IN THE WORKPLACE This week, our Behr DEI Council hosted a panel discussion on the most common types of female biases in the workplace. Through the sharing of stories and personal experiences, over 250 team members listened, reflected on their experiences, and gained deeper awareness and understanding. In addition to learning about the different types of female biases, team members volunteered actions to reduce them, such as being an ally and speaking up for a teammate when you see bias happening. Another suggestion was to pause and reflect before speaking so you can ask yourself, “Would I still say this if I were speaking with a male colleague?” Going into 2022, we will continue to offer opportunities for our team members to share their candid thoughts, to become more educated and aware, and to have real conversations that drive change and greater inclusiveness.
