Memorial Day, which falls on Monday, May 27 this year, is an opportunity to reflect and recognize the members of the U.S. military who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. CJ Logistics America joins the rest of the country in remembering and honoring the courage and dedication of those who died in military service for the country. This weekend is also typically seen as the “unofficial” start of the summer season, and many people have plans to celebrate with family and friends. We hope everyone enjoys the weekend and stays safe!
Several years ago, the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) designated the third Monday of every May as National Supply Chain Professionals Day to celebrate those who work in logistics. CJ Logistics America is proud to have some of the best and brightest in the industry working tirelessly day and night, passionately and proudly, to serve its customers and deliver the best experience possible. Let’s recognize a few of them today and learn more about why they love working in this industry!
Today on Military Spouse Appreciation Day, a part of Military Appreciation Month, CJ Logistics America joins in recognizing and honoring the service of military members and those who support them. Military Appreciation Month is described as a time of “remembrance, observance and respect for military members, spouses, veterans and lost loved ones” on veteranlife.com. It was officially established in 1999 when the US Senate declared May a time to honor and recognize the service and sacrifice of all military members past and present and their families. Military Spouse Appreciation Day is held on the Friday before Mother’s Day. Since more than half of active-duty military members are married, according to the US Department of Defense, there are currently nearly a million military spouses supporting service members. Military Spouse Appreciation Day recognizes these individuals for all that they do for their service members, their families and their communities.

CJ Logistics customers experienced VIP hospitality throughout the weekend, including having the chance to play in the Pro-Am competition on Wednesday. Several golfers that participated in the tournament are sponsored by CJ Logistics, including two-time Byron Nelson champion Kyoung-Hoon Lee, Sunjae Im, Byeong Hun An, Si Woo Kim, and 16-year-old amateur Kris Kim. May marks the beginning of Asian/Pacific American (AAPI) Heritage Month – a celebration of Asian / Pacific Americans in the United States. At CJ Logistics America’s corporate headquarters and locations across the country, displays and activities will recognize the contributions and achievements of Asian / Pacific Americans. To celebrate the occasion, the corporate headquarters’ upcoming monthly town hall meeting will feature a group of employees engaging in a meaningful panel discussion about Asian culture, values, and the pathways to success as an Asian-American in the U.S. May was chosen as the month in commemoration of the first Japanese immigration to the United States on May 7, 1843, and the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869, after Chinese immigrants were most of the workers who laid the tracks. Asian/Pacific references the Asian continent and the Pacific islands of Melanesia (New Guinea, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Fiji and the Solomon Islands), Micronesia (Marianas, Guam, Wake Island, Palau, Marshall Islands, Kiribati, Nauru and the Federated States of Micronesia) and Polynesia (New Zealand, Hawaiian Islands, Rotuma, Midway Islands, Samoa, American Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu, Cook Islands, French Polynesia and Easter Island).
THE CJ CUP launched in 2017 and was South Korea’s first officially-sanctioned PGA Tour tournament. After three years of play at Nine Bridges on Jeju Island, the event was moved to America in 2020 due to challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic and has been hosted in the United States ever since. This year’s tournament begins a decade-long title sponsor partnership that CJ Group agreed to with THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson in September 2023. CJ Logistics itself sponsors several PGA Tour players who will participate, including Kyoung-Hoon Lee – who won the Byron Nelson tournament in 2021 and 2022 – as well as Sungjae Im, Byeong Hun An, and Si Woo Kim. CJ Logistics America will once again host customers and partners at the event, which brings in 200,000 spectators every year. They will enjoy a VIP hospitality experience, with some having the opportunity to play in the Pro-Am competition prior to the PGA Tour event. “We are proud to be a part of the organization and title sponsor of this amazing event and can’t wait for the opportunity to meet up with our customers in Dallas,” said CJ Logistics America CEO Kevin Coleman.
CJLA is committed to proactively fulfilling our sustainability responsibilities. We pursue harmonious, sustainable growth with our customers, employees, partners, & local communities, focusing on opportunities to make a positive impact economically, socially, & environmentally. Earth Day 2024 falls on April 22 this year, & CJLA employees all over the country have been celebrating & recognizing the event in various ways. Those at the company’s headquarters in Des Plaines, IL, participated in a cleanup event at Schiller Woods, a forest preserve located just a few miles from the office. This cleanup was organized by the Chicago nonprofit Clean Up – Give Back & gave all locally-based CJLA employees the opportunity to team up & help beautify the surrounding neighborhood. Additionally, Clean Up – Give Back runs an annual plastic bag drive where they accept more than 10k pounds of plastic bag donations. Many CJLA employees participated this year & contributed to that effort, diverting these bags from landfills where they can instead be “upcycled” into composite decking & furniture products. Clean Up – Give Back will also be presenting at a company town hall event this week to share more about what they do & how everyone can work together to protect the environment. Those in many of the company’s other distribution centers across the country, including CA, GA, & FL, participated in clean up events in their local communities as well.
n celebration of Women’s History Month, CJ Logistics America recently hosted a fireside chat with employees to discuss the key role that women play in the supply chain industry. This event was open to both women and men, and fostered a healthy dialogue regarding the state of gender equality in the logistics space. Several female employees from CJ Logistics’ transportation division participated in the panel discussion to share their unique firsthand experiences and perspectives. Some of the topics covered in this forum included the challenges women face in a historically male-dominated field, how women can set and achieve personal and professional goals, the ways that women can manage work-life balance, and how everyone can work to advance women as leaders within the industry.
March is National Women’s History Month, and CJ Logistics America is proud to recognize all of the women who make this company and the supply chain industry great. This year’s theme, “Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion,” recognizes women who understand that to have a positive future we need to eliminate bias and discrimination entirely from our lives and institutions, according to The National Women’s History Alliance. “During 2024, we recognize the example of women who are committed to embracing everyone and excluding no one in our common quest for freedom and opportunity,” the organization said. “They know that people change with the help of families, teachers and friends, and that young people in particular need to learn the value of hearing from different voices with different points of view as they grow up.” CJ Logistics America has long been committed to supporting the success of women throughout the industry. Doug Smith, Group General Manager at CJ Logistics, is a notable champion for this cause and is closely involved with the Women in Trucking Association. He recently participated in a webinar panel the association held on how men can be allies to women in the supply chain industry.
