Cook Children’s Medical Center – Prosper has opened its Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), allowing children experiencing seizures to receive integrated care closer to their homes and communities. The unit is similar to the EMU at the Jane and John Justin Institute for Mind Health at Cook Children’s Medical Center - Fort Worth.
Since the Las Vegas Trail Neighborhood Health Center opened in August 2025, it has served as more than just a medical facility; it has become a one-stop shop for a community that was once a health care desert, providing health care clinics, workforce solutions, a food pantry, and more. A key player at the forefront of this transformation is Sky Ramos, Cook Children’s Health Plan’s (CCHP) first-ever clinic-based Community Health Worker (CHW). For the roughly 7,000 CCHP members living in the Las Vegas Trail corridor, Ramos represents a major shift in how care is provided for this community. Previously, most member interactions happened over the phone. Today, Ramos is a constant, in-person presence, helping families navigate the complexities of health care from right in their own neighborhood.

This holiday season, Las Vegas Trail area residents are experiencing a new chapter of wellness and hope, thanks to an award-winning collaboration bringing health services close to their west Fort Worth neighborhood, which has long been known as both a health care and food desert. Since the new Neighborhood Health Center serving the Las Vegas Trail area opened its doors in August, thousands have received health care services through the center’s two medical clinics, a partnership of Cook Children’s Health Care System and JPS Health Network. Participants in the Neighborhood Health Center’s first workforce development program, taught by Tarrant County College, are set to graduate in December. Nearly 100 community members have participated in one of 12 cooking classes offered in the center’s teaching kitchen, where a Cook Children’s dietician demonstrates how to prepare healthy, budget-friendly meals with limited cooking resources. Hundreds of connections have been made through outreach events.
