The 2019 Design Excellence Awards, which honors the best work by Chicago architecture firms found worldwide, were held this past Friday. Epstein was the proud recipient of an Interior Architecture award for our renovation and expansion to Chicago’s Park Plaza Senior Living Facility, which recognizes excellence and distinction in interior architecture. This is the third AIA Chicago Award that Park Plaza has received. Congratulations to our entire team for completing the AIA Chicago "trifecta,” and for this truly grand example of Epstein’s design capabilities!
"If you work here long enough, you have the opportunity to touch upon just about every project type." An array of assignments and personnel, new ideas and an entrepreneurial spirit are part of the Epstein legacy that began almost one century ago. Nearly 100 years later, we're proud to still be maintaining those core concepts, making diversity not only in our work, but also in our staff, a constant priority. http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vMR38
Having an internal charitable foundation was important to the Epstein founders. The employee-run Epstein Community Foundation, therefore, is a reflection of the broader vision Epstein has about helping the community we live in. We love to give back, participate in local charities, and provide an avenue for our employees to get involved. http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vMRLP
The unique experience of working at Epstein is something we partake in on a daily basis. However, we wanted to showcase what life here is like. Get a glimpse of our Chicago office, hear from some of our employees, and see why we are proud to call Epstein our (work) home. http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vMRLv
Construction progresses on the two-building Class A Office Mennica Legacy Tower, which will be comprised of a 35-story east tower and a 10-story west building located in the Central Business District of Warsaw. Epstein is serving as the architect and engineer of record, as well as the design engineer for MEP and structural engineering services for this project. Read more from the designer of Mennica’s structural systems, our Thomas Suarez, PE, SE, about the continued progress:
We're wishing many congratulations to our Alexus Davis for winning the NOMA 2019 Member of The Year Award, which is recognizing her for her outstanding service and commitment to the National Organization of Minority Architects! Alexus is also being appointed to sit on the NOMA National Board starting in 2021 as the Midwest University Liaison for the organization. Kudos, Alexus, we are very proud of you!
Epstein is proud to host author and photographer Lee Bey at our Chicago office on the evening on November 7. Lee will be speaking about his critically-acclaimed new book, Southern Exposure: The Overlooked Architecture of Chicago’s South Side. As a native South Sider, and former architectural critic for the Chicago Sun-Times, Lee is uniquely qualified to speak on the hidden-in-plain-sight architectural gems found in Chicago’s southern communities. We hope to see you there! http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vMRAD
The M-6 project near Hampshire, Illinois is the third site to be addressed in a system-wide Maintenance Facility program being planned, designed and engineered by Epstein for the Illinois Tollway. M-6, which achieved LEED-Gold certification, incorporates several sustainable design elements. Check out the facility with these new images!
According to Building Design + Construction, convention centers are now focusing on providing a more complete user experience for attendees. Our L Randall Buescher, AIA, and Paul Sanderson, AIA, are featured in BD+C's 2019 Giants 300 Report, sharing their expertise on how spaces thereby require infrastructure and amenities to take them beyond their traditional roles - a concept Epstein implemented in the expansion and renovation of the Javits Center in New York.
The Chicago Architecture Center's annual "Open House Chicago," where architecturally-significant and interesting buildings are made available to the general public, is coming up. It features multiple Epstein-designed and/or engineered buildings, including Ignite Glass Studios, Testa Produce, Harold Washington Library Center, and many more. There are hundreds of new sites included in this year's tour; be sure to check it out!
