Last year, FHLBank Indianapolis awarded an Elevate small business grant to Detroit Cycling Studio in Detroit, Michigan with the help of bank member First Independence Bank. Despite the pandemic, Detroit Cycling Studio was able to pivot to a virtual online platform with the help of the Elevate Grant. The small business purchased 50 custom branded indoor cycling bikes for their clients to rent and use in their own homes. Last month, FHLBank Indianapolis joined New Hope for Families and other community partners to break ground for The Roof at New Hope in Bloomington, IN. GEM AWARDS Recently, FHLBank Indianapolis held its eighth GEM Awards, an employee recognition program that awards outstanding employees quarterly. This peer-to-peer focused program has an emphasis on our Guiding Principles: Foster Collaboration, Champion Inclusion, Drive Transparency, Exemplify Trust, and Empower to Deliver Results. When an FHLBank Indianapolis employee sees a colleague doing great work, they can nominate their fellow employee with the Guiding Principle they best exemplified. Our GEM team, an employee-led group, reviews these submissions and compiles the nominations for those staff to be celebrated at an upcoming GEM Awards event and entered into a drawing for prizes. Our employees go above and beyond every day, and we aim to celebrate our wins – big and small – with a simple thank you.
Last month, our African American Employee Resource Group (ERG) hosted several events in observance of Black History Month. The events included a joint educational event with the Women’s ERG, a follow-up discussion about allyship for African Americans, and a cultural awareness session on The Divine Nine and Historically Black Colleges and Universities. United Way FHLBank Indianapolis held our annual holiday fundraiser for United Way of Central Indiana and United Way of Michigan. These two organizations focus on education, income, and health for communities in need. In a silent auction, we received 155 bids for items donated by employees. This year, we donated 175 gifts, as well as Kroger gift cards for families at the Villages, an organization for children in need of loving homes.
