🥾 Oh, the places we’ll go – #TeamGEI goes the extra mile (or 18!) to make an impact! We partnered with the California Department of Water Resources’ (DWR) Division of Flood Operations on a three-day mission within Desolation Wilderness, which encompasses 63,960 acres of subalpine and alpine forest, granitic peaks, and glacially-formed valleys and lakes, located west of Lake Tahoe in El Dorado County, #California. The mission? To renovate the existing Lake Lois hydrometeorological station with a new Hinge Fold Tilt-Pole structure. There’s no road access to the site, so the team made their way on foot – an 18-mile roundtrip hike that climbs 8,600 feet in elevation through forest, mountains, and steep rocky terrain. “Working in the wilderness can be both physically and mentally challenging but being onsite to protect sensitive resources while contributing to a project that helps California manage its #freshwater was so rewarding!” says GEI Biologist Maggie Woodworth. Learn more and check out a photo gallery of the trip on DWR’s website: https://ow.ly/KmYg50XrLtO.

Events like the University of California, Berkeley GeoSymposium highlight the strength of our #geoengineering community. Supporting this year’s student happy hour gave #TeamGEI a front-row seat to meaningful conversations between students, researchers, and practitioners. These #connections are where new ideas take shape and where future leaders begin their journey. Thank you to the GeoEngineering Graduate Student Research Association for hosting such a thoughtful event — and for including GEI in this year’s symposium. We’re grateful for the opportunity to help support emerging talent in our field. #GeotechnicalEngineering #UCBerkeley Lane Klansek, PE, Alex Light, PE, Mark Freitas, Lydia Kelley, PE

🧱 #TeamGEI assisted with critical foundation support at the renovation and expansion of the Maple Terrace Building in the Uptown neighborhood of Dallas, Texas. Our team designed an #underpinning plan to connect #micropiles to the buildings’ grade beans, bypassing and abandoning the existing footing which was un-usable. This underpinning allowed the building to remain stable during excavation for the building expansion and for #construction to move ahead without delay.
