Congratulations to our newly certified Development Dimensions International trainers in our North America region! The group participated in multiple workshops that focused on improving their essential skills, enhancing their facilitation mastery by learning and practicing key competencies. They received expert guidance, observing their Gates master trainer in action, and received one-on-one training. Additionally, they engaged in hands-on practice by facilitating leadership modules and receiving personalized feedback. It's this spirit of constant growth that drives us forward.

Meet Alizée! In 2021, she applied to join the HR team in our Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region. The day she was offered the position, she learned she was pregnant. She wanted to take the job but was nervous to share her news with the recruiter. To her surprise, her pregnancy did not affect her job offer. “It doesn't happen to all the moms out there, to experience that. To not be discriminated against because you're pregnant, to not be discriminated because you're a young mom.” When she returned in October of 2022, she focused on looking for improvement opportunities, such as the standardization of job postings. Alizée’s hard work gained her a promotion to Talent Acquisition Manager, shortly after returning from maternity leave. In this new position, she used her research to implement the right processes and improved her team’s workflow and results. What Alizée likes most about her job is being a part of the change at Gates. She said, “knowing that we all have an important role to play to make this company better is great, because that is what makes the job interesting. I’m not a robot doing the same thing day after day. I’m creating my own work, making a difference, and seeing the results of my efforts.” Outside of work, Alizée loves to spend time with her family. She appreciates the small and big moments she shares with them, including her daily commute when she rides her two daughters to daycare on her Tern GSD bike, which has a Carbon Drive belt systems.

Meet Jamal! He joined the Gates team 1.5 years ago as a Commodity Manager. He ensures our facilities have the correct equipment, maintenance, and installations needed to make products that meet Gates quality standards. What he enjoys most about his role is that every day is different, bringing a lot of new knowledge with each project and collaborating with people all over the world. Jamal has also been a part of the U.S. Army since graduating college, where he learned the value of true teamwork – where the best strategies are the ones that play to each member’s strengths, pushing them to be better every day. He has found that the same can be applied in a corporate setting. We all have value to bring to the table, and as we get to know our teams, we can use the best versions of ourselves to achieve our company goals. Jamal chose to specialize in supply chain management, as he saw how crucial it was while in the military. He had to develop highly efficient supply chains, so soldiers could have all the resources needed to succeed, especially when it came to long-term goals. As he learned, “Infantry wins battles, logistics wins wars.” He also believes you can apply this mindset to your personal life. You must ensure you have the resources you need to succeed, saying “Gates offers a lot of growth and development opportunities, but it’s up to each of us to take advantage of them. It’s the employees who play a vital role in making Gates a great company to work for.”

Build-O-Rama has become such an enriching experience for everyone involved, we decided to do it twice this year! Many thanks to our fantastic partners, Wish for Wheels and Priority Bicycles and to our employees who helped organize and assemble the bikes. Giving these children their first bike is truly empowering and can have a lasting impact on their lives. We can't wait to do it all again next year!

Meet Rafa! He is the Head of the Gates Global Creative Studio (GCS), our in-house creative agency, and has dedicate the last three years to growing and leading the team. What he enjoys most about his position is the opportunity to have a positive impact on people, saying “My role is to give my team the resources and guidance for them to trust themselves and conquer their fears and limitations, so they reach their fullest potential.” When Rafa was promoted to his current position, he focused on implementing productive workflows for the team and marketing the Studio’s capabilities. Today, the GCS supports many of our business functions globally, offering a complete set of services including 3D rendering, graphic design, photography, copywriting, video editing, social media, and project management. He said, “It is very fulfilling to witness the personal and professional growth of the people on the team.” Rafa’s favorite project was the collaboration with Bamboocycles, a Mexican bike manufacturer, to create a single-speed bamboo bike with our Gates Carbon Drive system. The GCS team managed the entire film production, from concept to the creative delivery. This project inspired the team to consider new possibilities of what the GCS could do and be. A piece of advice from Rafa is, “Don’t be afraid to stand out. Take risks, know failure, and trust yourself.” If you’d like to start your Gates career, visit gates.com/careers

We recently wrapped up the learning module portion of our Soar Leadership Development Program, created in partnership with Princeton HR Insight LLC, and it was a tremendous success. Our inaugural cohort now begin work on their capstone projects, which will be presented to the Executive leadership team in the back half of 2024. Dr. Lisa Brooks Greaux led an engaging module on 'Inclusion.' This dynamic training session was designed to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within Gates. Participants took part in self-reflection, open dialogue, and actionable steps to foster inclusion, emphasizing the significance of diversity and equipping them with the skills and knowledge to create a more inclusive environment. Our last module, 'Executive Presence,' was facilitated by Bryan Price. This module explored best practices to help our leaders show up looking both competent and engaging which can help with influence. During this session, participants had the opportunity to present their leadership philosophies and practice new skills that refined their articulation of their personal leadership philosophy. Past modules included ‘Intentional Leader’ by Rebecca Feder, ‘Strategic Leader’ by Pallavi Ridout, ‘Change Leadership & Influence’ by Michele Stowe, and ‘Coaching & Managing Conflict’ by Allison Barnes. This program reflects our commitment to developing exceptional leaders here at Gates.

Meet Vlad! He joined our company in January 2020 and has held several progressive leadership roles within the Pricing team. When he became Senior Manager of Pricing for the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region, he focused on strengthening the team, which now supports all EMEA business units. His team developed new internal KPIs to more accurately measure their performance, improved and automated internal processes, started transitioning to SAP, and more. “We’re the ones continually analyzing the current market and our sales development, balancing between what we can do as a company and what the market’s reality is.” Vlad was recently promoted to Director of Pricing for EMEA, where he is responsible for developing and executing short and long-range plans for EMEA Pricing aligned with corporate objectives and strategic initiatives. He appreciates the responsibility that comes with this new role, especially with his team, since Vlad knows that as the leader of a talented group of people, he is a key part of their career development, and must help them grow to become better professionals and individuals. Outside of work and throughout his life, basketball is his biggest passion. He played college basketball in the U.S., and professionally in Europe for many years. He now continues to play with a local team, in a regional league in Belgium where he was recently selected for an All-Star game. If you'd like to apply for a job at Gates, visit gates.com/careers
