Odysseus and Penelope, Romeo and Juliet, Mark Antony and Cleopatra. All classical power couples who stood the test of time individually but made their mark on history as pairs. In this same vein, we are thrilled to announce two husband-and-wife teams that are part of our great lineup of impactful speakers at the National Symposium for Classical Education. One of our keynote speakers, Jennifer Frey will be joined at the symposium by her husband, Christopher Frey, who will also be presenting. David Clayton and his wife, Margarita Mooney Clayton will each be presenting at their respective sessions.

The holidays are quickly approaching. While we may only be in October, Great Hearts is looking ahead to the holiday season to find student artwork to grace the cover of our annual Holiday Card.

Sumedh Seetharam is a senior at Scottsdale Prep and he was recently featured as one of the 10 Great Hearts seniors to be recognized as National Merit Semifinalists. But Seetharam was also recognized over the summer for giving kids ages 7-12 free karate lessons.

Great Hearts Harveston is thrilled to announce that their Open Enrollment period begins October 9th through December 1st, 2023, giving families in Baton Rouge the opportunity to experience the new tuition-free, public charter school for the 2024-25 school year.

Scottsdale Prep Theatre Arts is excited to present Merideth Wilson’s The Music Man. The beloved musical opens tonight, October 5th at 7:00pm. Additional shows are Friday, October 5th at 7:00pm and a matinee on Saturday, October 7th at 2:00pm.

Brianna Rogers is a 5th grade Lead Teacher and the Team Lead for 4th and 5th grades at Great Hearts Harveston, the newest campus in the Great Hearts network and the first Great Hearts academy to open in the state of Louisiana. Rogers has enjoyed getting to acclimate her new students to the “Great Hearts Way,” and if anyone suited for this task, it’s her. She knows Great Hearts inside and out, having been a Great Hearts graduate and a Great Hearts teacher in Arizona.

10 seniors from Great Hearts Academies in Arizona have qualified as National Merit Semifinalists. Each have been recognized as one of the highest scoring entrants of the PSAT, qualifying them for recognition in the National Merit Scholarship Program as semifinalists of over 1.5 million entrants.

For the third year in a row, the Athletics Department of Scottsdale Prep, home of the Spartans, received the prestigious Great Hearts Directors Cup. The trophy has been on display for three consecutive years at the school along with three permanent banners displayed in the gymnasium to commemorate the winning years. Go Spartans!
