We're proud to partner with the OneTen Initiative, which aims to close the opportunity gap for Black talent in America. In the last year, our new apprentice program model attracted more than 100 new apprentices to our organization, with some entering an industry they had never before considered. The apprenticeship program differs from other training models, like internships, in that apprenticeships are a paid experience that lasts between one to three years; include a combination of learning and on-the-job training; and lead to a full-time role upon completion. Apprentices receive mentorship during their program and receive an industry-recognized and portable credential upon completion. “When we remove barriers for any demographic group, we open opportunities for all,” says Tiffany Capeles, chief equity officer. “By becoming an organization that embraces a skills-first culture, the floodgates of limitless success-potential become available to those who have been historically overlooked.”
Rob Hitchcock has been selected as the president and chief executive officer for SelectHealth. He began serving in the interim president and CEO role for SelectHealth in November after joining as the president of government programs and chief value-based officer in August. Rob will also serve as a member of the Enterprise Leadership Team (ELT) for Intermountain Health. “Rob has demonstrated keen ability in building positive relationships and collaborating across the organization while serving in the interim role,” said Nannette Berensen, chief operating officer for Intermountain Health. “I am confident he will continue providing great leadership to the SelectHealth team and build on partnerships within the enterprise in his permanent role as president and CEO. This is an exciting time for SelectHealth, and I am confident in Rob’s leadership and ability to enhance and grow SelectHealth in existing and new markets to better serve members. The College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) has recognized Intermountain’s Canyons Region acute and ambulatory facilities — including the Desert Region’s Southwest Utah facilities — for achieving CHIME’s Level 10 status in its 2022 "Digital Health Most Wired Level 10" program. Hospitals included in the Most Wired program are certified as levels one through 10, with level 10 being the highest. Level 10 organizations leverage technology in innovative ways and encourage deep adoption across the entire organization for improved safety, quality of care, patient and caregiver experience, value, and broader patient access to healthcare services.
The Utah Department of Health and Human Services has honored caregivers at Intermountain Logan Regional Hospital with the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Director’s Award, which is given annually to a Utah hospital for outstanding achievements in all aspects of newborn hearing, screening, and follow-up care. “One in 300 babies will have a hearing loss which is the most common birth defect,” said Teresa Shaffer, newborn hearing coordinator at Intermountain Logan Regional Hospital. “The first years of life are so important for language and speech skills in a newborn’s development which is why identifying hearing loss early is so important.”
“I couldn’t be prouder and more honored to be working side-by-side with these caregivers who are changing lives in our communities," said Jean Botha, MD, transplant surgeon and medical director of Intermountain Health’s abdominal transplant program. We performed a record 300 adult transplants in 2022 thanks to the generosity of deceased and living organ donors, their families, and a team of transplant caregivers at Intermountain who are dedicated to saving as many lives as possible.
