Kindred Partners with Louisville High School to Recognize Black History Month by Tim Findley Division Vice President, Diversity and Inclusion As part of Kindred Healthcare’s recognition of Black History Month, the Support Center hosted the Black Health Legends Exhibit, which highlights historical achievements of a number of black health professionals and institutions who were pioneers in the development of healthcare across Kentucky. This year, we were pleased to also have the opportunity to share the exhibit with Ballard High School in Louisville. Kindred partners with Ballard High School as part of the Academies of Louisville Program. This innovative program aims to empower students by offering meaningful and relevant learning experiences that directly relate to our world, and preparing them for postsecondary and career success in an ever-changing global economy. Dr. Cosby Speaks at Support Center for Martin Luther King Day Celebration on Jan. 18 To help honor Dr. King’s life and teachings, Kindred hosted a special event on Friday, January 18 at the Support Center in Louisville, featuring Dr. Kevin W. Cosby, President of Simmons College of Kentucky and one of the most well-known and influential African-American leaders in Louisville. Kindred CEO Benjamin A. Breier opened the session with a few remarks about Kindred’s MLK Day event and our commitment to inclusion and equity. Dr. Cosby was inaugurated as Simmons’ thirteenth president in 2005 and led Simmons to reclaim its original campus that was lost during the Great Depression, expand to three new campus locations, and become one of the 107th Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU). Dr. Cosby is also the author of five books, and has served as pastor of Louisville’s 15,000-member St. Stephen Church, the largest African-American church and the largest private employer of African-Americans in Kentucky. http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vQZWa
