Congratulations to McKinstry's Wisconsin team and key project partners who were recognized by the Lake Geneva School Board earlier this week for their outstanding job improving the District's facilities. Well done, team!
McKinstry and our client Pueblo City Schools were in the news back in August (http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vIp7r) when we kicked off a 10-school energy efficiency upgrade project. This week, we were covered in The Pueblo Chieftain (linked below) when the Pueblo school board approved implementing our powerED program at four STEM-focused local schools. As the article notes, the powerED program is "...designed to engage students to actively participate in methods to eliminate waste and reduce energy through changes in behavior." We're excited to continue working with Pueblo City Schools to save some energy
I had an internship at Delco Electronics when I was 16, and I got to visit a job site one day. I was really struck by a woman there, who was wearing a hard hat and directing work on the site. I asked her about what she did from the other side of the chain-link fence, and she said she was an engineer. These days, when I talk to my daughter, who’s nine, about what I do and why I do it, it’s so rewarding to drive through this town and other towns and show her what mommy built—literally. - Karen Hedglin, McKinstry senior program manager, Bozeman, MT. #ILookLikeAnEngineer #McKinstryEngineers

We had a blast with Lake Washington School District at the Seattle Seahawks home opener this past Sunday! The district is the first of the 2015 honorees for McKinstry's Champions of Sustainability recognition program, a part of CenturyLink Field's Defend Your Turf campaign. The district was recognized for setting an example by innovating, driving out waste, influencing positive changes in behavior, acting as community stewards, and generally supporting the life of their buildings. For many K-12 districts, the last day of school for students doesn’t necessarily mean the buildings are taking an extended recess. Instead, it marks the kickoff of a busy construction season that relies on superintendents, building operators, project engineers, construction managers, commissioning agents and many others to collaborate on anything from a boiler replacement to a major remodel—and have it completed in less than 12 weeks before classes are back in session.
