"My biggest challenge in joining the engineering field was being taken seriously as a female engineer. I was introduced by peers in client meetings as the 'token girl.' Now, it's balancing my career, projects, professional passions, and my other life of being a mother to an 18-month old. It is a glorious dance to be present in both roles — both are imperative. I want my daughter to grow up knowing that she can pursue whatever she wants because she is smart and capable enough for anything." - Crystal Benson, P.E. McKinstry program manager, Portland #ILookLikeAnEngineer #McKinstryEngineers

We ask our schools to do a lot on a tight budget: Invest in new technology, adapt to national standards, keep teachers and staff happy, maintain discipline, collaborate with other schools, mentor teachers—the list goes on. Little wonder, then, that maintaining the school building itself falls near the bottom of the priority list.
"Getting into engineering was nothing particularly glamorous for me. I was good at math and science in school, so people said I should look at engineering. Lots of people think that building systems engineering is boring, but we as humans spend most of our time in buildings—so engineers can have an immediate impact on everyone’s lives. - Kristina Sing, McKinstry engineering manager, Seattle #ILookLikeAnEngineer #McKinstryEngineers
Energy efficiency and renewable energy can have substantial benefits for both the climate and public health, according to this new study.
