Milliman has awarded grants to more than 100 students around the globe. Here are some of their stories.
Milliman has turned 75. It was in 1947 that Wendell Milliman (left) chose to return from New York to his hometown of Seattle and hang up a shingle as an actuarial consultant. Shortly thereafter, he took on a partner, a young actuary named Stuart Robertson. In the early days they would work on either end of the same large desk, passing work back and forth. They probably could not have imagined at the time that their fledgling partnership would grow consistently for 75 years and eventually employ more than 4,600 people all over the world. This milestone is no small feat. Most organizations don’t live to be 75. We’re excited to celebrate our history—and our future—with all of you. Throughout the next 12 months we will feature images highlighting our rich history. To learn more about our organization and career opportunities with us, visit our Careers website.
Neni Lewis is an administrative assistant in our New York office. Outside the office though, she's a track and field maven. For years, she's racked up USATF Masters medals, competing in women's hammer, shot-put, discus, and javelin events. The competition can't stop her, they can only hope to contain her. 🙂 Read more about her athletic exploits in this Milliman employee profile.
More than 30 years after earning her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Economics, our Valea Coyne overcame work, parenthood, COVID-19, and the death of her beloved father to earn her Master’s degree in Finance and Financial Management Services. Learn how determination and professional support from her principal, Patricia Renzi, helped Valea achieve her goal.
Our Claire Booth explains when she decided to become an actuary.

In Brussels, a team of Milliman actuaries took part in a charity soccer event hosted by Asquare Partners called the Actuaries Futsal Cup. On the pitch, our team was able to reach the quarterfinals. More importantly, the 12-team event raised funds to support humanitarian efforts in Ukraine.
Move over Patrick Roy, Milliman has its own great goaltender. 🙃 Our Doug Norris is known for stopping a puck or two from entering the hockey net when he’s not performing his day job as a consulting actuary in Denver. Read his story in the following blog post.
