In Indianapolis, employees from our health practice worked with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful GreenKids to kick off the building of an outdoor classroom at William McKinley School 39. Over 30 employees from our Financial Risk Management practice in Chicago recently spent two days teaching financial literacy and entrepreneurial concepts to students at Avondale-Logandale Elementary School as part of Junior Achievement’s “JA in a Day” program. The 2018 Milliman Opportunity Scholarship is now available for student applicants. The Opportunity Scholarship was established to assist students from ethnic groups and races that are underrepresented in the fields of actuarial science, data science, computer science, economics, programming, mathematics, statistics, data analytics, or finance. The second annual Milliman Opportunity Scholarship application period is now open and accepting entrants. The Milliman Opportunity Scholarship assists students from ethnic groups and races that are under-represented in the fields of actuarial science, data science, computer science, economics, programming, mathematics, statistics, data analytics, or finance. For the second year running, up to 12 scholarships of at least $5,000 will be awarded to students who meet the eligibility criteria, which includes applicants from these under-represented groups who are enrolled or plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate program in one of the above areas of study. Students in the United States, Canada, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Australia, and South Africa may apply, with the deadline to submit scholarship applications ending on April 13, 2018. Milliman employees and family members recently volunteered with the Northwest Harvest, a non-profit food bank distributor that provides two million meals each month to a network of 375 food banks, meal programs, and high-need schools. The 2017 winners of our firmwide Milliman Awards were recognized recently. The annual awards honor innovation and collaboration and identify employees whose actions exemplify Milliman's mission, vision, and values. Winners received a plaque and a gift card for $500. The Milliman awards committee—led by Chairman of the Board Ken Mungan and principals—selected the firmwide winners. Our global practice directors presented the Global Practice Director Vision Awards to individuals who made significant contributions to their disciplines aligned with Milliman's vision.
