Their accomplishment marked the completion of the facility’s Substance Use Disorder (SUD) program — a meaningful milestone in each participant’s recovery and a reflection of what is possible with treatment in an environment of structure and respect. NaphCare, Inc., a leading correctional healthcare company, has developed the MyCare Patient Portal to improve access to care and provide patients 24/7 visibility into their personal health information. Delivered through digital tablets in correctional facilities, MyCare connects patients directly with healthcare staff and enables access to personal medical records, including test results, medication details, upcoming appointments, and patient education resources. This increased access fosters greater patient engagement and understanding in their care plans, equipping individuals with the knowledge and tools to make healthier choices, ultimately helping to reduce recidivism and relapse. MyCare Patient Portal is fully integrated with NaphCare’s corrections-specific electronic health record (EHR), TechCare 5.0, enabling patients to securely and confidentially request health services for review by clinicians. “NaphCare wants to enable and empower our patients in their health journeys while incarcerated, but also increase those patients’ likelihood of stable reentry into their communities. MyCare is the latest collaboration that helps us all reach that goal,” said Charlie Barranco, Chief Information Officer for NaphCare. Read more below.
In partnership with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO), NaphCare, Inc., a leading correctional healthcare company, is proud to announce THRIVE, a Jail-Based Treatment Program (JBTP) for patients requiring specialized mental health treatment. Since September 2024, the voluntary treatment program has operated within a specialized mental health unit in the Washoe County Detention Facility. THRIVE fills a gap in care for this population, who are experiencing symptoms of serious mental illness in jail while they await transfer to or return from inpatient psychiatric hospitalization. The program is involved with the Washoe County Competency Court and supports patients by providing them with the advanced level of treatment needed to move forward in their legal cases and lives. “The Sheriff’s Office is pleased to partner with NaphCare on this innovative program, which seeks to improve outcomes for individuals housed in the jail-based mental health unit,” Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam said. “The deputies working in the unit are dedicated to collaboration with the assigned medical providers NaphCare has placed in the unit. Working together, and over a short period of time, we have already seen positive results from the program – a testament to the power of teamwork.” Read more below.
This year, NaphCare celebrated a major milestone with the company’s 35-year anniversary. In 1989, our founder, Jim McLane, began providing pharmaceuticals to correctional facilities through his family’s drugstore in Birmingham, Alabama. In doing so, he recognized the growing need for quality medical care for individuals incarcerated in prisons and jails. This led to the creation of NaphCare and our mission – to improve and save lives. What began as an opportunity for a family drugstore, has grown into a nationwide correctional healthcare company, serving more than 430 local, state and federal correctional facilities across 49 states through a variety of innovative services and solutions. From its founding, NaphCare has worked to create solutions and drive change in correctional healthcare. Our story begins with seeing a need and providing a solution. Our company’s growth has always been closely tied to responding to what we see first-hand in correctional facilities and hear from our partners on the frontlines. NaphCare stands apart in the correctional healthcare industry, in part, because of the stability of our ownership and leadership. 35 years ago, Jim McLane set the foundation for NaphCare, and today, he continues to direct his vision as Chairman of the Board with his son, Brad McLane, at his side as CEO.
