This year, NaphCare celebrated a major milestone with the company’s 35-year anniversary. In 1989, our founder, Jim McLane, began providing pharmaceuticals to correctional facilities through his family’s drugstore in Birmingham, Alabama. In doing so, he recognized the growing need for quality medical care for individuals incarcerated in prisons and jails. This led to the creation of NaphCare and our mission – to improve and save lives. What began as an opportunity for a family drugstore, has grown into a nationwide correctional healthcare company, serving more than 430 local, state and federal correctional facilities across 49 states through a variety of innovative services and solutions. From its founding, NaphCare has worked to create solutions and drive change in correctional healthcare. Our story begins with seeing a need and providing a solution. NaphCare, Inc., a leading correctional healthcare company, announced the initiation of a multi-year contract with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office to provide proactive, preventative healthcare services in the county’s jail in the Southwest region of Florida. Today, the Washoe County Detention Facility (WCDF), in collaboration with leading correctional healthcare company, NaphCare, Inc., was awarded the Pinnacle Award by the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC). The NCCHC Pinnacle Award is the highest distinction in correctional health care, recognizing WCDF’s NCCHC accreditation across three distinct service areas, including jail health services, mental health services and opioid treatment programs (OTP). This marks only the third Pinnacle Award ever granted in the nation and highlights Washoe County's commitment to providing quality care within its detention facility in Reno, Nev. “It is an incredible honor to receive the National Commission on Correctional Health Care’s Pinnacle Award – and the third one ever granted in the nation,” Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam said. “The Sheriff’s Office places a high priority on the care of inmates in our custody. The NCCHC Pinnacle Award is the highest honor in correctional health care and underscores Middlesex County’s dedication to high-quality care in its facilities. This is the second-ever Pinnacle Award in the nation and recognizes the County’s achievement of NCCHC accreditation in three separate service areas - jail health services, mental health services and opioid treatment programs (OTP). In recognition of Mental Health Month, leading correctional healthcare company NaphCare, Inc. and the NaphCare Charitable Foundation, Inc. launched “Reframing Mental Health” – a patient mental health art initiative and exhibit aimed at advocating for awareness and addressing stigmas related to mental health. More than 50% of individuals in correctional institutions experience symptoms of mental illness. NaphCare aims to directly address this mental health crisis through evidence-based programming designed to stabilize patients and prepare individuals for a safe and healthy return to their communities. NaphCare has established specialized mental health units in jails across the United States. Patients from units in Forsyth County, N.C., Hillsborough County, Fla., Mesa County, Colo., and San Diego County, Calif., were invited to create original artwork around various mental health themes, including reducing the stigma of seeking mental health treatment, the representation of diversity within communities, and relevant demonstrations of positivity and inclusivity. Participants could select from an array of media – graphite pencils, charcoal, watercolors, and oil pastels – to design expressive artwork based on their own mental health experiences and representations. Individuals responded by creating art that depicts their daily challenges managing severe mental illness, resilience to navigate difficult times and hope for a brighter future. BIRMINGHAM, AL & MESA, AZ — The NaphCare Charitable Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to advancing the safety and wellbeing of communities through research, educational programs, and scholarship opportunities, today announced a donation of $20,000 to the East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT). EVIT is a premier public trade school providing 50 career training programs to nearly 8,000 enrolled Phoenix-area adults and high school students at two central campuses in Mesa, Arizona. The contribution from the NaphCare Charitable Foundation will support EVIT’s Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and Registered Nurse (RN) programs by helping to fund the salaries of program instructors. In addition to certificate programs, EVIT began offering associates degree programs in surgical technology and nursing in 2024. Additional degree programs, as well as apprenticeships, are in development. “Aligned with our mission, we’re proud to support the expansion of the East Valley Institute of Technology’s incredible nursing programs,” said Brad Cain, CEO, NaphCare Charitable Foundation. “Developing new nursing talent is essential with the decrease in the nursing labor market.
