"On Monday, Oct. 16, a team of Patelco CU staff members went up to Santa Rosa from its headquarters in Pleasanton to work with the Redwood Empire Food Bank. On the way home, the group decided to show some love to fellow credit union community members at Redwood CU which was nearby."
"Erin Mendez, president/CEO of the $5.8 billion Patelco Credit Union in Pleasanton, said 47 members lost their homes and many of them also lost their cars and other personal property. 'So far we’ve talked to 47 of our members who have lost their homes and that is only through Wednesday,' Mendez said. “A lot of them have their lost cars, they have no credit cards or debit cards, and some of them lost their paychecks that got burned, so we are just trying to help facilitate them through a large variety of situations."
"When the 2017 California wildfires started, Mendez and her staff created a new offering: Loans up to $5,000 for a three-year period — the first year is interest free and the subsequent two years at 3.25% interest. “It’s a break-even loan for us at best,” Mendez said. “For the Santa Rosa situation, we had people who needed to get apartments, and we wanted to make sure that our relief program satisfies a large spectrum of people.”
