Congratulations to Dr. Gurleen Kaur Kahlon (left) and Dr. Caroline Chincilla Putzeys (right) โ the first graduating class of Phoenix Childrenโs ACGME-accredited Pediatric #GastroenterologyFellowship Program! Each completed our 3-year program comprised of inpatient and outpatient care, research, didactic lectures, literature reviews, hands-on endoscopy training and more. Our gastroenterology fellowship graduates are pictured with Dr. Ashish Patel (center), physician-in-chief. As former division chief of gastroenterology, Dr. Patel is the clinical leader who first launched this program.
Congratulations to Phoenix Children's May 2025 pediatric nurse residency graduates! Our Pediatric Nurse Residency Program is an 18-month, comprehensive transition-to-practice program designed to support new graduate nurses as they begin their careers in pediatric nursing. This program is tailored for nurses entering inpatient acute care, critical care, and the emergency department. Key components of the program include: Precepted Clinical Experience: New graduate nurses are paired 1:1 with an experienced preceptor for 12โ16 weeks. Dedicated Support: Each nurse is assigned a Residency Instructor who provides mentorship, guidance, and advocacy throughout the program. Didactic Education & Skills Labs: Monthly classes and hands-on labs offer in-depth learning on pediatric body systems, clinical scenarios, and evidence-based practices. Department-Specific Education: Nurses receive targeted education tailored to the unique patient populations and clinical needs of their assigned units. Cohort-Based Community: Nurses begin the program in cohorts, fostering a sense of community and peer support.

Phoenix Childrenโs was well represented at the Association of Child Life Professionals 2025 Annual Child Life Conference. Members of our child life, patient experience and neonatal intensive care teams participated, connecting with colleagues on the latest best practices in addressing childrenโs developmental, psychosocial and emotional needs as they navigate illness, hospitalization and medical treatment.
Clinical education specialists at Phoenix Childrenโs were honored to present at the 2025 Society of Pediatric Nurses 35th annual conference at the Disneyland Hotel. They shared best practices in advancing our nursing teamโs skills and know-how through innovative gamification (gameplay). Congratulations to Lisa Dowrick, trauma outreach coordinator at Phoenix Childrenโs, who received the 2025 Arizona Emergency Medical Systemsโ Pediatric Champion Award. She was recognized for outstanding dedication to pediatric trauma education, emergency preparedness and community engagement throughout Arizona.

This renowned clinical event brought together congenital heart disease professionals throughout the Western U.S. for 3 days of collaboration and innovation. Together, 2025 attendees advanced their knowledge and fostered connections within the congenital heart disease community.

The Herbert J. Louis Center for Pediatric Orthopedics at Phoenix Childrenโs was well represented at the 2025 Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America (POSNA) Annual Meeting. Several clinicians presented their expertise during the conference, sharing best practices in world-class care for children with musculoskeletal injuries or diseases and conditions impacting their musculoskeletal function.
