Our survivorship program at Phoenix Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders (CCBD) was recognized as a 2022 Survivorship Champion by Children’s Cancer Cause. This award is presented annually to a group, program or institution that is making significant advances in providing comprehensive life-long integrated care for survivors of pediatric cancers.

Congratulations to Brenda Strom, MSN, RN, CPN, clinical nurse in Phoenix Children’s hepatology division, who was named as one of March of Dimes Arizona’s 2022 Heroes in Action. Winning in the pediatric category, she was recognized for being an outstanding nurse who advocates for health of all moms and babies.

Ilce Alexander, injury prevention specialist at Phoenix Children’s (left) and HDR Inc. team members were on hand at the 2022 Franklin Community Fair, a free event hosted by Franklin Police & Fire High School. They helped raise awareness for home and sleep safety, and distributed 50 free home safety kits to community members. This is one of several safety programs Phoenix Children’s offers that support families with resources to promote children’s safety.

We’re continuing to expand throughout Arizona — adding new state-of-the-art facilities, growing our skilled clinical team and expanding the world-class programs we provide.

Pediatric providers, physician assistants and nurse practitioners are an important source of drowning prevention guidance for families. Phoenix Children’s invites providers to join a quality improvement study to measure and improve providers’ drowning prevention efforts, knowledge and resource-sharing during well-child visits. This study is conducted in partnership with Phoenix Children’s, Arizona State University, Michael Phelps Foundation and Salt River Project.

Thanks to medical advances, survival rates of children with cancer is at an all-time high. To help these warriors live their healthiest lives possible following treatment, Phoenix Children’s offers a survivor program. Made up of clinicians in oncology, endocrinology, cardiology, social work, psychology, nutrition and research, our team works closely to help patients best manage the long-term effects of cancer therapy.

Thanks to her incredible skills and talent, Ashanti was awarded funding to further support the poetry-based programs and workshops she leads to help adolescents and teens in our community address mental health issues and concerns.
