Our highly specialized clinical team at Phoenix Children’s Chest Wall Center performed its 500th cryoablation during the gold-standard Nuss procedure for pectus excavatum. Cryoablation freezes the intercostal nerves during surgery, which lessens post-surgical pain, shortens hospital stays and decreases the need for opioids.

At Phoenix Children’s, we enjoy celebrating staff members who embody our mission of providing hope, healing and the best health care for children and their families. We recently honored Alan Go, a respiratory care practitioner, who went above and beyond in providing quality, compassionate care to Hayden and her family. Together, our president and CEO Robert L. Meyer, Hayden and her family surprised Alan and presented him with a Mission Moment certificate and a friendship bracelet handmade by Hayden!

Programmable shunts use adjustable valves to drain excess fluid from a patient’s brain. Shunt settings can be affected when patients come too close to a magnet, like an MRI. In these cases, shunts must be reprogrammed within 24 hours to prevent any complications. At Phoenix Children’s, our clinicians have implemented an automated process and dashboard to ensure that all patients with programmable shunts and upcoming MRI appointments are automatically scheduled for shunt reprogramming. This initiative not only streamlines care and ensures patient safety – it’s an additional level of service that our patient families appreciate.
