More than 1,600 employees from our Trade Marketing function came together from across the country in Orlando, Florida over two weeks for Sales Area meetings that brought energy, connection, and focus to the work ahead. Colleagues traveled from coast to coast, representing the Eastern, Western, and Southern Sales Areas, alongside Internal Trade Marketing, HR Business Partners, and Strategic Accounts, reflecting the full breadth of the team. With more than 300 employees added over the past year, the sessions highlighted how continued growth, fueled in part by our smokeless transformation, depends on staying connected, aligned, and focused on shared priorities. From networking to breakout sessions, the energy throughout the meetings reflected a shared commitment to collaboration and progress. That sense of camaraderie continues to support how teams work together as we continue Growing Tomorrow. Those conversations were further strengthened by engagement from executive leaders, who joined in person to offer perspective, reinforce priorities, and provide clarity on the path ahead.
At Reynolds American, employee safety and wellbeing remain a top priority. That's why we're honored to be recognized by the NC Department of Labor (NCDOL) with five Gold Safety Awards and two Million-Hour Awards for our Winston-Salem area facilities. NCDOL's Safety Awards Program recognizes organizations across the state that achieve and maintain outstanding workplace safety records, promoting accident prevention and celebrating teams that help create safe and healthy work environments. These awards reflect the dedication of employees across multiple functions who work every day to uphold safety standards at our downtown headquarters, Reynolds Operations Center, and Bowman Gray Technical Center. Representatives from these teams recently traveled to Greensboro to accept the awards in person during NCDOL's annual ceremony. This recognition is a testament to how we are Growing Responsibly and reinforces our commitment to making employee safety a key part of our culture. Congratulations to everyone who contributed to this achievement!
Millions of illicit, unregulated vapes are still on the market. Since 2016, millions of e-cigarette applications have been submitted to the FDA. Only 41 have been authorized. When FDA review doesn’t keep pace with innovation, the system breaks down, limiting access to regulated alternative products for nearly 30 million adult smokers while driving them to illegitimate channels. A better pathway to a Smokeless America matters.
Business, policy, and nonprofit leaders came together in Washington, D.C. last week for SEMAFOR's The Future of Philanthropy Summit to explore the evolving role of philanthropy in driving meaningful impact. Our Senior Vice President and Chief Transformation Officer, Shay Mustafa, joined a conversation with Semafor’s General Manager and Head of Public Affairs, Andrew Friedman, to share Reynolds American’s perspective on corporate philanthropy and the role companies can play in supporting the communities where they live and work. Drawing on more than a century of history in community investment, Shay highlighted how our organization’s approach continues to evolve alongside our business transformation, with a focus on building scalable programs that improve communities and strengthen local economies. She also spoke to how we focus our community efforts through three key pillars: supporting people through essential needs, advancing prosperity through economic mobility, and investing in the planet through programs that strengthen the livelihoods of our farmers and their communities. We’re grateful to be part of the dialogue shaping how companies can drive lasting, meaningful impact in the communities they serve.
Reynolds American recently welcomed leaders from the City of Winston-Salem for a closer look at the transformation happening along Reynolds Boulevard and across Whitaker Park, a former R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company manufacturing site being reimagined through investment and strong partnership. Stops along the way included a meet-and-greet with leo rucker and Joey Allen, the artists behind the large mural we’ve commissioned in the area, along with views of new landscaping and streetscaping, a tour of Purple Crow’s new headquarters, and continued progress on The Grounds development. The visit wrapped at the iconic Whitaker Park fountain, now back in operation thanks to Purple Crow, and a great symbol of the energy building across the area! This work reflects our Growing Community focus, supporting the places where we live and work through investment and collaboration.
Keeping nicotine products out of the hands of kids matters. So does giving adult smokers access to alternative products. These aren’t competing priorities but are the twin foundations of responsible regulation. Do both. Explore more: https://www.reynoldsamerican.com/growing-a-smokeless-america/
Three years. Zero recordable accidents. That’s the kind of milestone that speaks for itself. Teams at Santa Fe Natural Tobacco Company (SFNTC), a Reynolds American company, have built a culture where employee safety shows up in the small decisions every day, watching out for one another, catching issues early, and never cutting corners. It’s how we keep moving closer to a zero-accident workplace.
When American smokers have access to science-backed product alternatives to cigarettes, public health benefits. Responsible regulation prevents underage access and allows adult smokers to choose innovative smokeless products. Both matter. Government data shows youth vaping is down 74% since 2019. Yet, youth who vape are using illicit disposable vapor products. Enforcement should target the problem where it starts—with manufacturers, retailers, and distributors of illicit products. Read more: https://www.reynoldsamerican.com/growing-a-smokeless-america/
Just a few months ago, we made a forward-looking $3.2B investment focused on advancing our progress toward a Smokeless America. That investment is the focus of a recent article we partnered on with SEMAFOR, which explores the critical role Reynolds American plays in local economies across North Carolina and Tennessee. As we continue to invest in U.S. manufacturing, sensible regulatory frameworks that keep pace with innovation remain essential to accelerate toward a predominantly smokeless business.
