Project Risk and Insurance Manager Gloria Cook has experienced mentorships that either began organically or were carefully chosen based on pertinent expertise. “What I truly cherish are the bonds that formed with my organically grown mentors,” said Gloria, pictured with Chief Financial Officer Ben Leaver, one of her mentors. “These relationships evolved into friendships that added immense value to my life. I hold their opinions in high regard and deeply respect their wisdom and guidance.” Meanwhile, several assigned mentors along the way helped her address challenges and gain specific experience. Team members on our Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital project donated nearly $4,000 during the holiday season to provide Christmas gifts to three families in need. The team was able to purchase every item on the families' wish lists and more. The gifts were wrapped and delivered to the Goodwill Industries of the Valleys families to help brighten their holiday season. Our Wadley Regional Medical Center project team welcomed some construction students from Texarkana College for a site visit. Team members gave the students a tour of the site and demonstrated some of the innovative technologies they're using on this project. We had a great time hosting these future industry leaders and look forward to seeing what they accomplish next!

Mentorship provided Field Superintendent Jeffrey Giles with the chance to form long-lasting relationships with team members while instilling in him the confidence to grow professionally. As a 2019 graduate of Robins & Morton’s Rocky McMichen Field Leadership Program, Jeffrey has advanced into a management role, leading the construction of facilities such as the award-winning Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital expansion project. “The investment Robins & Morton made in me by allowing me the opportunity to enter the mentorship program was not wasted,” Jeffrey said. “My mentor has remained a part of my professional life. Even though I graduated some time ago, I still consider him my mentor, and likely always will, but I also consider him my friend and colleague. Two of our Miami team members had the opportunity to speak to a local Boys & Girls Clubs group about their journeys in construction and what a career path could look like for them. Assistant Superintendent Jamal Crooks and Field Engineer Kaylan Vasquez visited Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade and shared their stories with high schoolers who are part of the Workforce Readiness Program. Jamal and Kaylan are looking forward to speaking with other Boys & Girls Clubs throughout Miami in the coming months and welcoming students to our project sites in South Florida. We're grateful for team members like Jamal and Kaylan who are giving back to our community and helping guide and empower the next generation of construction professionals.
