“From early musings of a career in medicine to the intricate world of architecture, my path has been anything but linear. During my high school years, an ordinary visit to a local university unveiled the world of drafting tables to me. It was a moment of epiphany, where I found myself wondering, ‘Could my love for drawing translate into a profession?’ Memories of my younger self, sketching on bedroom walls and filling notebooks with designs suddenly took on a new significance. They weren't just childhood pastimes; they were the early signs of an architect in the making. I received my degree in architecture from UACJ and became a licensed architect in Mexico." Our Charlotte team was proud to be the presenting sponsor of this year's 18th annual Tidelands Health Foundation In the Pink Breast Cancer Awareness Walk. We believe in giving back to our community and supporting causes that are important to our team members. We had a wonderful time participating in this event, which helps make a difference in the fight against breast cancer by ensuring that vital mammography services are accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial situation. Our team saddled up to support the Western Jamboree in Greenwood, South Carolina, benefitting the 1951 Club and the Equation For Progress Campaign by Self Regional Healthcare Foundation. The 1951 Club works to ensure access to excellence in healthcare for all patients in the community. Our contributions through the campaign directly support life-saving initiatives, including da Vinci robotic surgery technology and the establishment of a comprehensive breast center for women. We're grateful for the opportunity to help save lives and improve the quality of life for those in our community.

“Toward the end of last year, I had the opportunity to come back home to Cherokee to build our new long-term care facility, Tsali Care Center. My grandfather was in the [former] Tsali Care Center for a while and he had dementia. The older facility didn’t have dedicated space to accommodate that level of care. Now I’m building this new facility, with a big, beautiful wing that is 100% dedicated to memory care. It’s different somehow when you’re building something that matters so deeply to you. My parents, my children, me – we’ll all probably be in this facility someday. It really brings my experience as a builder full circle when you see the kind of impact that you can have. Everything I do is for Cherokee, for this community. “If you were to look at drawings of our University of Miami Health System’s UHealth Tower project site, it would look like a maze, with various phases and stages of construction overlapping one another. We’ve been tasked with completing a new five-story, 138,000-square-foot tower and a comprehensive 16,000-square-foot front entry expansion, but first, we’re tackling multiple interior renovations and detailed infrastructure work around the hospital campus. We’ll be transforming the existing south and west entries as well. All of this represents a $166 million construction investment by UHealth. That may seem straightforward, but all this work shares the same square footage with a fully functioning hospital that’s surrounded on all sides. To build safely and with minimal disruption to hospital operations, we’ve separated our work into six projects, with the tower addition divided even further into 15 smaller packages. What’s really unique about this hospital is that it’s built on utility access space, which is not something that is typically found in South Florida. It has about 4 1/2 to 5 feet of vertical clearance for maintenance access and to accommodate expansion. We’ll use the space to tie into the existing utilities when it’s time. That factor has been a new experience for me on a healthcare campus, and it was an opportunity for us to bring out Morty, our robot dog, to document those conditions." – Robins & Morton Senior Project Manager Ivy Armstrong

Our team at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital shared a heartwarming moment with some young patients at Carilion Children's Tanglewood Center. Several patients and their families spent some time painting a beam that will be used in the construction of the Crystal Spring Tower expansion project, which will include pediatric and adult trauma care units. The event was an opportunity to integrate art into the healing process for these children, allowing them to relax for a brief period, focus on something fun, and use their creative expression. “We wanted the children to have an opportunity to make their mark on the building as it goes up,” Robins & Morton Assistant Project Manager Chandra Jones said. “It will be a permanent part of the building.
