To continue our Warehouse Worker Appreciation Week celebrations, we would like to recognize warehouse worker Bill Kudzmas in our Burlington, New Jersey facility. Bill takes his job seriously and wants all receiving to be complete before he goes home. He has shown a knack for figuring out solutions to issues on the warehouse floor from fixing the RF device to unloading trucks when the freight has shifted. Distribution Supervisor, Michael Burk, complimented Bill’s hard work ethic and specifically remembered a time earlier this year when numerous team members were off or had called in, but Bill and a co-worker doubled down and stayed late to hold down the fort and delight our customers. #Thankyou #OneTeam
Veritiv celebrates Warehouse Worker Appreciation Week to say ‘thank you’ to our team members in our warehouses across North America. To kick things off, we created this video to show our appreciation.
Up next in our #VeritivExperts series, we spoke with Packaging Equipment Specialist, Matt Clark out of our Richmond, Virginia location. As a mechanical engineer, he is called to customer sites to conduct walk-throughs to recommend ways in which our customers can solve packaging productivity and labor shortage issues with equipment automation. “I really love the technical side of equipment and designing equipment solutions to solve customer problems,” said Matt. If a company is forecasting a 200% increase, their team needs new ways to automate or semi-automate processes. Our Chandler, AZ team invited a Girl Scout troop to explore STEM through our Veritiv Packaging Design Studio. The girls learned about different materials, colors and shapes for packages, as well as how weight and weather affect packaging. Their favorite part was trying to crush the box and the test duckies inside.
Next for Black History Month, we are spotlighting Dox Thrash, an extraordinary artist, invented the carborundum printmaking technique. He along with two other printmakers discovered this printing process in 1937 while working in Philadelphia. He found that carborundum, a crystal-like structure with the strength of a diamond, could be mixed with adhesives and grinded into a copper plate before inking it. Once dried, the areas covered will retain the ink just as an etched area would. An artist could also remove it with scratching tools, imparting a broad spectrum of textures and depth to a print. His artwork and paintings of the people and places of America can be found in the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Sharing stories from African American industry influencers fosters the curiosity and understanding needed to ultimately break down barriers in today's world. We encourage you to be intentional about how you reflect on Black history this month and throughout the year.
To honor Black History Month, our team is highlighting African Americans who have influenced our industry. Our first industry leader spotlight is George Washington Carver, an agriculture scientist and inventor, who developed hundreds of products using peanuts, sweet potatoes, and soybeans. One of these many inventions allows Veritiv to thrive today – printer’s ink. Though he is most known for his innovations using peanuts, Carver used many other legumes to create printer’s ink. In fact, many of today’s oil-based printer ink used linseed or soybean oil as solvent to combine pigments. This kind of ink dries through evaporation. Today, we celebrate Carver and the influence his inventions and innovations had on our industry and society. #BlackHistoryMonth #BlackIndustryLeaders

With the storms and earthquakes that have devastated Puerto Rico, local work is hard to find. Our team implemented a new program working with a group to recruit warehouse workers on the island to serve in our Mechanicsburg, PA and Hebron, KY facilities. This image is Craig Walton providing a tour on their first day last week. If you’re interested in joining our team, apply here: https://careers.veritivcorp.com/us/en. #Innovative #OneTeam
