Juneteeth marks the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people were freed. Though enslaved people had been emancipated two and half years prior by Lincoln and their freedom solidified by the end of the Civil War two months prior, many enslaved Americans did not know of their freedom until the news trickled through the state and the coastline by the federal troops in June 1865. After the end of the Civil War, many slave owners and states continued to practice slavery. The federal troops were deployed to spread the good news and ensure their freedom. The following year a group of freemen in Texas organized the first “Jubilee Day” to celebrate. The tradition and celebration continued annually and became known as Juneteenth. It honors the end to slavery in the United States and is considered the longest-running African American holiday. It is officially celebrated on June 19th and is commemorated with music, barbecues, prayer services and rodeos.

We are excited to celebrate Pride Month at projekt202 and honor the history of the LGBTQ+ community and our diverse employees. We celebrate who they are, how they identify, and will highlight the rainbow of colors that they bring to our company and the world. Pride is recognized in the month of June to commemorate the Stonewall riots of 1968 in Manhattan, New York. The first pride parade occurred in 1970 in New York City and in 1999 President Bill Clinton recognized the month of June to observe and celebrate Pride. Present day, Pride has now become one of the biggest celebrations all over the United States. Throughout the month projekt202 will host various events to commemorate Pride Month!
