You get 4 weeks right off the bat, and you can buy another two weeks using benefits dollars the company gives you. Or you can spend those benefits dollars on another benefit.

PTO is very flexible and can be selected to fit your needs as an employee. I am a non-union worker and HP provides the standard 19 PTO days. From there you can either choose to have an additional 5 days off, or choose to work those 5 days for extra pay depending on if you prefer time off or you want more money that year. After that you can purchase an additional 5 days of PTO, which means you can take 5 more days off but they will not pay you for it meaning you will pay back the money throughout the year if you are salaried. I value my time off so I take full advantage of the PTO offering and get 29 days of PTO every year. On top of that you receive 5 and 1/2 paid holidays. I love that they provide flexibility for people to choose their PTO package or have more control of there pay because not every person has the same preferences.

All the time I wanted my manager never looked at what I was writing down - probably because she literally took 295 out of 365 days off out of the year.

You're given a lot of time off, but you don't always get to actually take it.

You accrued vacations hours but due to it being a union position, there really isn't an opportunity for you to take off any days due to those with seniority level taking off every available holidays, Fridays and Mondays, and consecutive weeks.
