Anonymous Sales Specialist

matching of 401K ONLY happens if you are there in December each year. Previously it matched per pay check. Now they only match at year end. This seems like a rip off for people investing in the 401K for many months and no match. Since IBM does many lay offs it is a major savings for the company out of the employees pockets.

They match 401k after a year, which I think is reasonable. I don't know of many employers who would give something better than this. So I think it is a good bet.

Percentage match contributions are no longer paid into the 401K plan on a monthly basis. IBM contributions are held until December 31 and you must be an employee on December 31 to receive the year's match. Therefore, if you resign or IBM decides to lay you off effective December 15th, you will not receive that year's contribution.
