I applied online, where I mostly wrote about how I have a enormous passion for travel and also have had previous sales experience and that I think having both these two skills combined would be great. I then got an email explaining that they wanted to do a phone interview with me and that I should pick a time where that could happen.
During the phone interview they never asked me to sell anything to them, I think it's mainly just to see what your phone manner is like, how you sound, etc. The interviewer also asked me specific question related to my resume and my studies. She told me that I wouldn't be able to do both as it's very long hours. I agreed with everything and she also told me straight away that the base salary is only about 30k a year. At the end she told me I was successful and would like to meet me and do a group interview, while in the time between I was to do an online personality/intelligence test.
The online test took me about 2 hours to finish, a lot of questions that had to do with what you would do in each circumstance. There was about 7 parts to it, all containing about 50 questions. It's multiple choice, mostly giving you only two choices. The last three parts where surprisingly difficult, make sure u have a calculator ready! They try to confuse you with badly worded questions, or questions that require you to think in two parts. Anyways, I don't think it matters too much, but I'm sure they take it into consideration. You can't really prepare for this section.
The group interview took place in the HQ, and it was from 9am - 3pm. There were about 6 groups of 5 people in the room. Out of the thirty people there were only three guys. Rest ranged from early 20's - mid 30's women. Anyways the first two hours were mainly about working for flight center, the benefits, the companies, all about how great flight center was. I'm not too fussed about the massive "parties" and drinking and flight center "culture" I could care less about "buzz nights," so they didn't really sell me there.
Anyways after that the area manager came in and told us about how hard it is working there, but coming from a call center background, I don't think anything is gonna be harder than that. I'm was really surprised by the amount of people who wanted to be working that hard for minimal wages, but hey, maybe they are like me, they have to pay for their living. You then had to get to know the person next to you and do a little speech about why flight center should hire them. Everyone said almost the same thing, so try to be creative and also jot down interesting notes about the other person.
After that was a quick 15 minute break and straight back into a group activity involving a survival scenario where you discuss within your group what to bring with you. The two interviewers just walked around the room and listened to each group. After that you present to the whole class why you chose what you chose.
Next there was a basic numeracy assessment followed by geography assessment. Capital of Fuji etc. where famous landmarks are in the world. Describe the benefits of cruise travel/independent travel etc. Brush up on these things and you should be fine. They don't expect you to know everything, but they also don't want you to know nothing either.
During this names were called to do a sales role play. They call you and you go into a room with an interviewer who pretends to be a customer and you pretend to be the consultant. Just ask a lot of questions like, how was your day? how can I help you? where do you want to go? what do you want to do? I found that to be an easy way to get through this part.
Now before the lunch break they told us that they will be short listing people and not everyone got through to the next round where they do the 1 on 1 interviewers. So they mark our papers during lunch and talk about who they think should stay.
Anyways when we came back names were called and we were told to go to separate rooms, I think the people whose names were not called stayed in the main room and was told to go home. I have no idea how many people were shortlisted but if I had to guess I have to say about six people were sent home.
Now we are in separate groups and the interviewer asked us questions 1 on 1 as a group. The questions had to do with perseverance, multitasking and customer service and they asked us all essentially different questions regarding the same topic. Note that you have to relate all of them to your previous job experiences. This was my favorite part as they finally go to know you as a person rather than a group, and it lasted about 15 -20 minutes.
After that was the Galileo system. Just about following instructions from a piece of paper and finding the answers on their program.
We finished at 3pm on the dot and they told us that our references would all be checked and they'll contact us within 3 days whether or not they'll hire us.
