Atmosphere Academy is a free public charter middle and high school in the Bronx, New York. There is no tuition required to attend Atmosphere Academy.
In 2020, Atmosphere was named a Recognition School by the New York State Education Department (Recognition Schools are the fastest growing and highest achieving schools in New York State). Atmosphere was one of only a few charter schools to earn this honor. The school earned this award after placing #1 out of 230 schools in the state in math growth and #23 out of 230 schools in English growth. Moreover, by 2019, the school had raised student proficiency to over 50% in English and over 60% in math in just its first four years (only about 8% to 20% of students on average enter Atmosphere proficient in either English or math in 6th grade from other schools, further demonstrating Atmosphere’s profound impact on its scholars). These student outcomes handily beat not only its local District, but also both New York City and New York State.
Atmosphere achieves these outcomes not only through a rigorous academic program, but also through intentionally designed experiential learning and social-emotional support.
