The Best Employment Decision I've Ever Made...

Pros

I started at 1-800 CONTACTS over 14 years ago to work as an E-commerce Software Development Lead. I can honestly say that coming to 1-800 CONTACTS was truly the best career decision I've ever made. Management truly cares about the individual, and we treat each other like family here. I've grown more than I ever imagined, and have been empowered to control my career as well as help the company grow. Servicing our customer, and constantly improving their experience, drives everything we do, and is truly the focus of the company. I'm proud to work for such a great company, with such great customer service, and I hope to continue to be here for as long as I can.

Cons

1-800 CONTACTS has always had great success. As the company has grown it has struggled, as any successful company does, with the growing pains and to keep up with the culture and roots the company was founded upon. However, I am always impressed that the company has not stopped seeking ways to improve as we go, heal the growing pains through constant improvement and adjusting as we go, and continues to make this the best place to work.

Pros

Very nice Amenities. Cool Environment. Great Benefits.

Cons

High-pressure Sales Environment. Very competitive trainers and managers. I often felt overwhelmed by the stress of the sale. I went in thinking it was more customer service but was sorely mistaken when I found out it was primarily sales.

Thank you so much for your comments and insight. We always appreciate valuable and constructive feedback from alumni and associates. We are constantly working to improve our recruiting and our associate experience. Some of the things we currently do to improve applicant transparency is having an accurate job description and an opportunity to listen to live calls for 30 minutes during the interview. We also provide valuable question and answer time with current team members in the position. We seek to provide a simple and exceptional customer experience. 1-800 contacts aims to provide an environment where new associates can be successful. This includes weekly 1x1’s with their manager, multiple call reviews with specific coaching, transparency on performance, and side by side mentoring opportunities. Our entire quality program is built upon those unique values. We always strive to have the customers best interest in mind, which mean quality and sales are intertwined. That being said, we always appreciate feedback and are regularly trying to improve our processes. We will definitely continue to look for additional ways to refine our realistic job preview that we incorporate with the interview process.

Pros

The people that work at 1800 are top notch. It is very rare that you come across someone that doesn't genuinely care about the people they work with. They take great care of their employees when it comes to benefits and events (film festivals, summer event, lensy awards).

Cons

Although they do take great care of their employees, their pay/compensation is not competitive enough to keep quality employees. Over my time there, I watched some of our best associates walk out the door to go work at Thumbtack, Jet, Ebay, etc, simply because they were offering a higher wage. I also feel like recently they have lost touch with the workforce. It seems that now, more than ever, they are more concerned with money, and not with quality. I understand that a business has to be focused on being profitable, but 1800 has always been the company that was so great at listening to what their employees are saying, and implementing change based off of the feedback they received, and because of this, the financial side of things has always taken care of itself, and I feel that 1800 has taken a huge step away from that over the past 2-3 years.
