We are deeply concerned by this review. To the associate who shared it, we strongly encourage you to reach out to your HR Business Partner, Landon Langston, or any member of our HR leadership team. We’re here to listen and partner with you to identify solutions. We do not tolerate bullying as this goes completely against our Mutual Respect Policy. Our doors are open, and we hope to connect with you soon. To anyone reading this review, we want to address the statement that our internships are not paid, as this is incorrect. All our associates who accept an internship on another team or in a different department at our organization continue to be paid for their time. If any of our associates have questions about our internship opportunities, we invite you to reach out to your manager or HR business partner.

Pros

Company outlook is exceedingly good. If you want stability, Contacts is not going anywhere. Annual review always shows record breaking earnings. Easily the top of the food chain in their industry. CEO is solid and is not afraid to let upper management that isn't making the cut/culture go (I see this as a strong positive) In house benefits (chef prepared food for dirt cheap) is convenient and pretty unique. A great place for an engineer just starting (or someone wanting to become a developer) to get their first job. They will pay you less, but offer many ways to take the first step, even if you're just a call center agent.

Cons

Since covid, they seem to have lost sight of what made working here so great. The benefits when you work at home are nonexistent. They used to do film festivals and IT parties with big prizes that made you feel like they cared. The health and dental insurance are horrible providers, with a very limited selection of doctors. This year I had to switch from a dentist I'd seen for 5 years. The monthly cost is probably slightly above average from what you'd pay elsewhere, which is frustrating. While there are some really good people / talent, there are also a lot of lazy or incompetent senior level developers that are a hassle to work with. Most (not all) managers are in a never ending quest to look more important than eachother. Upper management feels like a high-school clique and you truly don't feel like they care about you anymore. Pay is far below market value. They entice you with stock options that may take YEARS to pay out instead of paying you what you're worth, while constantly stating how they are "paying for the best people". They aren't aware that the best people are ready to leave if this doesn't change. Threatening to leave is the only way to get a substantial raise.

We appreciate you leaving a review and sharing both the wins and opportunities you’ve experienced during your time at our company. COVID has been an interesting challenge. Through the collective efforts of many, we have been focused on continuing to make 1-800 a great place to work. This always evolving work takes time, effort, and the collective collaboration of the community to build. We appreciate you lending your thoughts as we build the future of our company together. And we agree! Not being able to gather in person was a frustration shared by many. We are truly grateful to be in a place where gathering is now not only an option, but highly encouraged within teams. While our full 2023 events calendar is still being shaped, we do have some fun things in store (hint: our annual bowling tournament is right around the corner). If you’re interested in helping us plan and execute some of our in-person Utah events, we’d love for you to join our events committee (sign-ups went out in yesterday’s newsletter). We also encourage you to reach out to your leader, admin, and/or business partner and express your desire for more in-person gatherings at a team or department level. Sometimes a friendly nudge is all that’s needed. We also want to reassure you we hear your frustrations. We’ve already shared your review with your group’s business partners and our compensation and benefits team. If you’re willing to sit down and chat with us (virtually or in-person), we would love to further discuss your concerns. We invite you to reach out to Sarah Child (schild@1800contacts.com) or Peng Se Lim (plim@1800contacts.com), Senior HR Business Partners, or any member of the People Department. We’re here to listen and help identify solutions. Thank you again for sharing feedback and for being part of our team!
