Pros

There are some decent perks like the on-site gym and cafeteria. The work-life balance is acceptable if you don't mind not advancing.

Cons

Leadership seems to lack a clear vision for the tech stack, leading to a lot of tech debt and frustration among engineers. Raises are minimal and do not keep up with inflation or the local market rates in Utah.

We are glad you enjoyed perks like the gym and cafeteria, and that you had good work-life balance while working at 1-800 Contacts. Associates’ wellbeing is important to the company, and we strive to provide the resources and flexibility our people need to maintain healthy, happy lives. Also, thank you for sharing your experience of working in our Engineering department; we take feedback seriously and use it to find ways to improve. Tech debt and tech stack are complicated in established ecommerce enterprises, and it's an issue we've been working on from the beginning. We currently have multiple projects underway to tackle tech debt and streamline our tech stack. Working through tech debt and optimizing systems is a constant need, and we know that in the ever-changing landscape of tech, this job will never be fully done. We want to acknowledge that because of low turnover and high tenure in our Engineering department, advancement has a bottleneck. That said, we encourage continual skill growth and celebrate when associates can find advancement outside of the organization if advancement inside of the organization is not available within an associates desired timeline. Additionally, we are dedicated to promoting from within as higher-level and leadership positions become available. Lastly, we appreciate your feedback on pay. We regularly review our compensation structure to remain competitive and ensure we’re recognizing the great work our team does. Your input will help guide those ongoing conversations.

Pros

I've never worked for a company that actually backs what they say. Although far from perfect, it's been a breath of fresh air working for this company. 1-800 Contacts truly cares about customers and associates. They empower leaders to lead without constant oversight and bureaucracy. You can actually take care of people here. They value high performance and accountability which is also a breath of fresh air. I feel like I constantly know where I stand. I'm never surprised. I can't adequately express my gratitude for what this company is trying so hard to do. The intentionality is so nice to see.

Cons

Any opportunistic feedback is heard and implemented, if feasible.

Pros

I’ve been with this company for many years, and I can say with absolute confidence that it has transformed my life. What began as a minimum‑wage job has grown into a career I’m deeply proud of—one that has challenged me, supported me, and helped me become who I am today. What sets this company apart is its relentless commitment to growth. Our leaders don’t hide behind “that’s how we’ve always done it.” Instead, they question, evolve, and push for better—because they genuinely care about the people who make this place what it is. And that care isn’t just talk. I’ve watched leadership read through every single employee survey comment with intention, not checking a box but truly listening. They search for meaningful ways to give agents more autonomy, trust, and control, all while aligning with the needs of the business. Witnessing that kind of dedication is not just impressive—it’s inspiring. The culture here is something special. It’s built on real feedback, real accountability, and real heart. This is a company where your voice matters, where you can grow, and where you feel the impact of your work every day. I’m grateful to be here. I’m proud of how far I’ve come. And I’m proud to work for a company that never stops striving to be better—for all of us.

Cons

Leaders are extremely compassionate, which is a strength, but at times it can lead to spending a lot of time and energy on individuals who may not be fully invested in being here
